Dusting of snow the past 24 hours. The snow forecasted last night did not happen. A check of the trails this afternoon found good coverage but the snow is light and fluffy. About 3″ in the woods. We have packed about 45 km of the trail system to try and set up a little base and prepare the trails for the next snowfall. We have been skiing on the trails and conditions are okay but still hitting the ground from time to time and have to be careful on the downhills, not being able to snowplow etc.
After a relatively “warm” day on Saturday, cold front moved through Saturday night dropping the temps down big time with highs not even reaching 0 on Sunday! Little bit of light snow falling on Sunday afternoon with around an inch of light fluffy. Jake out on the trails over the weekend, getting in a bit of skiing with the best skiing on Suicide Hill and trails closest to the lodge. Hopefully a few more inches tonight and we can pack this snow down into the base. We have packed about 46 of 64 km of the trail system. We need a few more inches before we officially open the trails for skiing but will allow other types activities for the first winter guests.
Cold weather this week has been great for making ice on the Maplelag ice skating rink. A few more "floods" should have the rink in excellent condition for outside ice.
After a morning low of -10, the temp warmed up throughout the day and still in lower teens at 9pm. We have coverage on the trails of 2-3″ of dry light snow. We packed most of the trail system today to prepare for the next snowfall hopefully the end of the weekend. The temps are nice and cold which should set up good ice and freeze the ground down nicely. We need around 3-4″ of hearty snow before we can officially open the trails. We have been skiing on a 3km loop that has been groomed but the base is very thin with bare spots and need more snow before we officially open the trails. We have been flooding the ice skating rink and is taking shape, very good condition.
