Crisp and cool on Tuesday. Temps dropping down to the upper teens the past few nights setting up some good ice on the local ponds and even freezing over the entire Island Lake. Clear skies allowing the sun to shine on these shorter days which is always nice to see. A dusting of snow remains on the trails. Chance of some light snow later today and tonight and rain/snow mix end of the week. Good to have the cold temps to set up frost in the ground, making a good surface for the snow to fall on. Ground freezing easily with above average rainfall this Autumn.
Dusting of snow last night as a cold front pushed its way through, dropping temps down in to the 20’s. With a stiff breeze from the northwest, the air has a bite to it for sure. Cold temps good for cooling down the ground to freeze and setting up ice on the ponds and sloughs. Getting closer to winter!!
Light rain off and on today. Temp has been falling throughout the day to around 35 degrees. No snow has fallen and slight chance this evening in to tomorrow with little or no accumulation expected. The wet fall continues with around an inch of rain the past 36 hours and total rainfall this Fall over 10″. The ground is wet and saturated and won’t take much to freeze the ground which is what we like to see before the first snow falls. Won’t be long until the snow comes for real!!
The Back Porch Quilters of Detroit Lakes, MN. lead a quilting retreat at Maplelag each November. Over 50 quilters work on “quilts” and what not over four days with special speakers during the retreat.
A few showers to start the day. Chance of rain most of the day along with cooler temps and chance for some light snow tomorrow into Saturday. The trails are in great shape and ready for snow. We have been clearing deadfall, sticks when we can to have the trails in the best condition possible before the first snows. Thanks to the Detroit Lakes Nordic Ski team for the trail clearing on Sunday.
