Morning temp checking in at -15. Definitely the coldest morning of the year so far. The big storm that hit the Midwest stayed south and east of us. We have coverage on the trails of 2-3″ of dry light snow. The temps are nice and cold with single digits for highs and below 0 for lows which should set up good ice and freeze the ground down nicely. We need around 4″ of hearty snow before we can officially open the trails. We have been skiing on a 3km loop that has been groomed but the base is very thin with bare spots and need more snow before we officially open the trails.

Crossing in between Twin Lakes Tuesday morning. Island Lake trail and Wavy Gravy trail pass through here.
Looking towards south Twin Lake at the Twin Lakes crossing.
A few flakes of snow coming down Monday morning. Snow fell most of the day on Sunday accumulating to less than an inch of fluffy snow. We did ski on Suicide Hill over the weekend which has the best coverage on the trail system, on a paper thin base, but need more snow before we can open the trails. The current coverage is very light, dry snow. Ice skating has been great on the lake with a nice surface. There is good coverage on the lake for possible lake skiing but the snow is very fluffy and hard to get “traction”. Once we build a bit more ice, we will try packing the snow on the lake in effort to have skiing on the weekend. We will make a decision on the ski camp weekend on Tuesday evening.
A few of the Maplelag favorites served this past Friday include home made cracked wheat bread served with butter from Hope creamery, cream of wild rice soup (local wild rice) and Russian Creme.
