Weather not kind to the trails this weekend. Warm temps during the night above freezing and staying in the upper 30’s to lower 40’s during the day. Unfortunately we lost quite a bit of snow and base. Should freeze down late tonight into tomorrow with a chance of light snow. The trails are not skiable until we receive new snow. Photos from Sunday morning.
The coverage on the trails holding out great today with temps holding steady around 30-32. Beautiful morning with trees flocked with frost. Ski patrol early afternoon found good coverage and very nice early season on Skaters Waltz. Hard to get off the trail!! Conditions the best they have been all year! North Loup was also skied. Found a bit more fresh frost on top of the most recent groom on North Loup but also a few more rough spots. We have been working on Skaters Waltz this week, building up the base as much as possible, focusing on the south facing hills. Skaters Waltz to be groomed early evening, pressing the fallen frost and in effort to firm up the base as much as possible.
We have been working on a 4km loop which is mostly Skaters Waltz in anticipation of the DL Invite ski meet on Tuesday and the upcoming ski camp next weekend. We will make a decision on the DL Invite on Sunday night.
Forecasted temp on Saturday and Sunday look a little cooler than originally forecasted. However, we will still have the trails closed Saturday and Sunday to preserve the base as much as possible before it cools down again and hopefully fresh snow!! We are planning on opening the trails again Monday morning. Unfortunately we had to cancel the first ski camp this weekend because of warmer temps forecasted and vulnerable base to high volume of ski traffic.
Bottom line, there is good coverage on all the trails with 2-4″ of snow depth/base. If we can get through Saturday and Sunday okay and freeze the base down again, there should be a solid base for the next snowfall. Like always, we will be updating daily. Think Snow!!
Another beautiful frosty morning with trees flocked with frost. Skiing has been very good this week for the amount of snow that we have. Rock ski conditions but a ski patrol on Skaters Waltz late yesterday was possible with “B” skis. We have been working on the start area building up the base with snow and also on Skaters Waltz with more attention to a 4km loop. Best skiing has been on Sukkerbusk, Skaters Waltz, Twin Lakes and most of North Loup. With the current base, 2-3″ of additional snow will make for nice skiing and support larger volume of skier traffic. Cooler temps forecasted for today and tomorrow as a result of a low southerly flow keeping clouds above us. The trails will be open today and Friday. Closing the trails Saturday and Sunday to preserve the base as much as possible during the forecasted warm spell. We will continue working on skaters waltz, building up the base on the thin areas. Get out and ski today and Friday!! Good to see a handful of folks on the trail this past weekend enjoying the early season conditions. Saturday morning sunrise ski was gorgeous with light filtering through from the east. Bit warmer on Sunday but the snow stayed dry, silky and fast with no melting and no freezing rain. Last week we worked on building up the base on Skaters Waltz and the start area, farming snow from the rink, court and fields. We also did some “test” track setting, placing track on most of Sukkerbusk. Ski patrol Friday afternoon found it skiable with a few thin areas but good glide and firm base. Few sections where thin, no track was set. Skaters waltz is skiing very nice for skating with the snow that we have and the shoveling last week. There is no charge to use the trails at this time until more snow and more trails open than the day pass is $15. Be advised the base is thin with some rough areas. Best to use older skis or “rock” skis. With that said, there is some fun skiing to be had if careful! The compacted base is 1-3″, solid and hard after a melt freeze cycle before Thanksgiving weekend. Total snowfall this season has been 8″ of mostly light fluffy snow and snow depth in the woods is around 4″. Ski rental service and lodging available the weekend of December 17th-19th. Just Ski and Think Snow! Istevan Gombocz enjoying the frosty morning on the trails. Sunday starting out a bit warmer before chance of snow later today, tonight and Monday morning. Beautiful Saturday morning with early morning sunrise lighting up the east side of the trails nicely. Temps in the single digits overnight setting up the snow enhancement. Good to see folks out on the trail Saturday morning.
Great week on the trails! With no new snow, we worked on building up the base on Skaters Waltz and the start area, farming snow from the rink, court and fields. We also did some “test” track setting, placing track on most of Sukkerbusk. Ski patrol Friday afternoon found it skiable with a few thin areas but good glide and firm base. The trails are open. Recommended to stay on Skaters and Sukkerbusk, trails groomed this week. Twin Lakes has been skiable, few thin spots on the high ridges. Use caution if adventuring to other trails. We have packed other trails but waiting for more snow before grooming additional trails. We are focusing on 20-25km of trail. We have been grooming for over 2 weeks on this 20-25km.

December starting out nice and chilly with morning temp at -15. Sun is shining brightly, light wind and temp climbing to 0 around noon making for a beautiful winter day. A quick ski patrol via skate skis found snappy snow despite the cooler temps. With no snow in the forecast this week, we will begin farming snow to sections of the ski trails, focusing primarily on the start area and skaters waltz.
The trails are open. Recommended to stay on Skaters and Sukkerbusk. No tracks set, skaters welcome to skate on Sukkerbusk. Use caution if adventuring to other trails.
