Groomed trail includes segments Feeling Lucky, Winter Bjorps, SukkerWest, North Star extension, Twin Lakes Bridge loop, and Twin Lakes “Race Loop” which includes the Hudson’s Hula loop. The Twin Lakes loop includes the ski trails of Twin Lakes (start of) and Wavy Gravy. Follow the FatLagchilada or fat bike signs to enter Hudson’s Hula. This is a more rider friendly loop and combined with the groomed trail on the inner system, makes for a nice loop of 15km.
To begin the “Special Edition” loop, head to the main trail head and follow signs to the big LagChilada sign to enter Feeling Lucky. After Feeling Lucky loop, head counter clockwise on Skaters Waltz to ride the other segments.
Bullhead Bootleg loop is not groomed. Hopefully we have it groomed out for riding in March and April….some of the best months of fat biking at Maplelag!
A fantastic Presidents weekend of skiing! Thanks everyone who came to Maplelag and patronized the trails. Clear with intense sunshine on Saturday with cool temps after a morning low of -24. Tracks were firm and snappy. Sunday saw fresh snow with over 2″ of new. The new snow was groomed in throughout the entire day, some trails 2-3 times with most of the trail system being groomed. Balmy temps on Monday but below freezing capping off a full plate of great skiing over the holiday weekend.
Tuesday cooling back down and snow drying out after clear skies early and upper teens for temps. Grooming on select classic trails this morning.
Trails that have been groomed and open with tracks set: Sukkerbusk, Twin Lakes, North Loup, Rootin Tootin, Mother North Star, Sap Run, Wavy Gravy, Island Lake, North side of Bullhead lake trail and the Bootleg extension, Roy’s Run and JibFly. Skaters Waltz, the extension and North Loup groomed for skating. Please no skating on trails other than Skaters Waltz, North Loup and the extension of Skaters. North Loup also has a track set. Please note portions of certain trails will not be groomed this year due to change in the lease and management on AMA property.
Total snowfall since December 15th=33″, compacted base on trail 7-10″. Snow depth in the woods 18-30″. Total snowfall since December 1st, 39″. Total snowfall since November 20th= 41″. We had a warm spell that melted most of the snow from November 20th and December 1st other than the north facing areas. First grooming of the season on November 20th after 2″ of snowfall. We have been skiing daily and only missed a few days of grooming since December 15th.
The trails are open for public day skiing. Trail access pass is $15. Ski rental is $15 a day. Lunch available for day skiers during the Midweek by reservation. Contact us to reserve and for pricing.
A great day of skiing on tap. Grooming on most of the trail system this morning after a dusting of snow yesterday morning. We groomed the new snow in to the skate trails (Skaters Waltz, Single Green Hill, Suicide Hill, and extension) and North Loup which is groomed for skate and classic again. We also set new tracks on Sukkerbusk. Having the transformed snow as a base to mix with new snow makes for ideal grooming and skiing and responds to any warm weather more favorably. Conditions are excellent at Maplelag! There is no reason not to ski so come out and just ski!
