The big storm in southern Minnesota was just that, south! Still a fantastic day on the trails for the ski camp with teams from Bloomington Jefferson, Minneapolis Southwest, Wayzata and Minnetonka partaking in time trials, clinics, ski games and logging long training sesssion on the classic trails…..and on pace to consume 5000 cookies from the bottomless cookie jars!! A cool morning leading to a summerlike day as warm temperates added to the challenge in the annual Pumpkin Run on the Maplelag ski and mountain bike trails. A three way battle in the mens 8km race as Steve Wenzel, Grant Mehring and Jeremey Peterson exchanged positions before Jeremey Peterson made a late race kick to overcome Mehring for the title. Kriston Dolence dominated the women’s race with a top four finish overall. In the 4km, Ken Hammer but the hammer down big time to take the win followed by Heather Smith who took the women’s title. Dustin Swanson won the costume award, running in the wrestling kit. After the race, runners were fed with a fresh batch of wild rice soup and home made bread right out of the oven. Age class winners were awarded home made pumpkin pie made by head cook Deb and the kitchen staff and along with spice bars and special cookies.
