Trail Report

Record breaking storm (as far as low pressure) leaving 3-4″ of snow Tuesday night to Wednesday morning after almost 2″ of rain leading up to the snow. Enough snow to head out on the trails for the first ski of the year. Sloppy for sure but always fun to see the “white stuff” first time of the season. A check of the inner trails didn’t find any big trees coming down, surprisingly,  but lots of twigs and small branches that we will clear off the best we can.  Otherwise the trails are in great shape and ready for the real snow to fly which we hope for after a hard freeze to set up the ground and sloughs, typically the end of November.

The trails will be open at no charge until deer hunting season which is the first part of November. The mountain bike trails are wet and sloppy right now but if they dry out proper, will be open for riding, including the new singletrack at Twin lakes.

Trail Report

Big time wind and rain on Tuesday with 1″ of  rainfall from 12 noon Monday to 12 noon Tuesday. Rain forecasted to change to snow later tonight. Check back for possible snow photos!! The wet and cooler weather coming on the heels of nice weekend including an incredible Friday that saw sunshine and upper 50 temps and no wind. Rainfall light on Sunday and Monday mornings and very welcomed after dry conditions past 3-4 weeks. A great weekend to be in the woods hiking and biking. Looks to be wet the next few days with chances for the first snow of the year!  All the leaves are down (early this year) after the peak of fall color the end of September. The trails are in excellent shape and ready for snow. This Fall we have  been busy mowing and blowing leaves off on the ski trails and clearing deadfall and also making great progress on the new mountain bike trail near twin lakes. The trail is completed and open for riding.

The trails are open for mountain biking, hiking, and trail running throughout the fall until the snow flies. The trails are closed to horses and motorized use. There is no charge to use the trails. The mtb course starts near the Great Northern Cabin and is marked for beginners to advanced riders. Follow the white signs with black arrows. The singletrack sections are labeled easier or more difficult/advanced. The advanced loop is around 7.4  miles, taking 40 min to 1.5 hrs to complete. We also have a new mountain bike trail near twin lakes. Follow the twin lakes ski trail and look for the mountain bike trail signs.  The trail is about 3 miles and takes 20-30 minutes to complete.  Please park in the parking lot by the first freight house as you enter the Maplelag property. The other mowed ski trails are open for riding as well. Enjoy!
