A Springlike day on the trails capping off a great Holiday week/end of skiing. Temp climbing to the mid 30’s with sunshine in the afternoon. The warm temps settled the snow some but the coverage remains good and we are enjoying some of the best November conditions in years. Best skiing has been reported on Skaters Waltz for skating and Twin Lakes and Sukkerbusk for classic. Tracks are set on Mother Hen, Sap Run, JibFly, Sukkerbusk, Mother North Star and Twin lakes. The tracks go down to the ground in spots with dirty/grassy sections but with “rock” skis, skiing is fine. Skating has been very good on Skaters Waltz and Rootin Tootin, and Skaters Extension also groomed for skating. All the other trails not tracked or combed for skating are packed and waiting for more snow. The trails are open at no charge. The base is 1-3″ and snow depth in the woods is around 6-7″. We will be working on the trails all this week.
Bit warmer day today with temp in upper single digits, light winds and sunshine making for a great day on the trails. Tracks set on Twin Lakes, Sap Run, Mother Hen, Sukkerbusk, Poki Loki and JibFly. Some sections the tracks are nice, other spots thin, down to the ground. With “rock” skis, classic is fair to good. Skating very good on Skaters Waltz and handful of folks hitting the trail this afternoon. Great skiing for Thanksgiving. Some of the best conditions ever. Skaters Waltz in great shape for early season skiing. Packing on 53 of 64km of trails the past few days. Some trails in better shape than other but a fantastic start to the season. Lots of sticks to clear in some trails but we are working on the trails daily to put them in the best shape possible. The compacted base is 1-3″ and total snowfall this week has been 8-11″.The trails are open for skiing at no charge. We have no lodging available at this time. Best skiing on Skaters Waltz, JibFly, Twin Lakes, Mother Hen, Sap Run and Sukerbusk. One low area to watch for on Sukkerbusk. We will groom again in the morning on Skaters Waltz, Rootin Tootin and Skaters extension.
Feels like a January day today with early morning lows of -6, wind making it feel even cooler, and fresh snow. Great skiing for Thanksgiving day this morning. Some of the best conditions ever. A great day in the woods and on the trails. Morning low of -2 climbing to a high of 12 with sunshine and light winds. Coldest temps so far this season. Good to have the cold temps to freeze down the lakes and water areas. Packing and grooming most of the day on the same trails packed yesterday and a few new ones. The 8″ of new snow is light and fluffy and packing down to a thin base but a great start and skiing is not bad for early season. Few sticks and rough spots to watch out for. Tomorrow (Wednesday)we will continue packing new trails and groom in any new snow that falls. The trails are open for skiing. Early season, rock skiing conditions. No tracks set and no trail fee!! Limited services in the lodge until we officially open.
