The ice went off Little Sugarbush last night and the loons have returned! Latest trail report on the trail report page.
Warmer weather the past few week has dried up the trails (other than the low spots that are holding water) and brought to life more plants and flowers on the forest floor. The lake remains covered in ice but is real close to coming off. The loons have been heard calling and seen flying by but waiting for the lake to open completely. The singletrack and mountain bike course has dried out enough for riding but we need a week or so of trail maintenance including sign erection before we “officially” open the trails. The trails are open for anyone that wishes to ride but be aware there are unmarked obstacles including fallen trees and not all the signs are out yet. The trails are closed to horses and motorized equipment (atvs etc.)

Once again we will be planting nearly 5000 trees this spring at Maplelag.
Tree planting report from last year with photos on the news page.
A mixed bag of weather this week in the woods and on the trails. Wednesday snow squalls off and on accumulating to an inch or so. That makes 100″ of snowfall for the season! Little Sugarbush lake remains covered in ice with the edges loosening up. Many small ponds are starting to open up. A nice variety of waterfowl enjoying the open water. The trails are starting to lose frost despite the wet and cool weather. The singletrack is drying up nicely and hopefully in a week or so we can open the trails to the public. Last year we were able to hold a short notice mountain bike race because of a dry March and April but doesn’t look possible this month. The trails are closed to motorized traffic and horses.
