Trails are open. Happy Presidents Day! Another day of spring conditions on tap, hard deck and fast skiing in the morning before softening and slowing in the afternoon. “Sweet spot” time to ski 10am-2pm. Took a little bit longer to cool down last night from above but calm conditions and cooler from underneath in the base freezing from below! Our snow has transformed to “corn” snow which means glide is more consistent later into the day. The snow looks like corn and is similar to snow cone ice…..the best phase of spring skiing! Great to see so many people out this Holiday weekend….thanks for the support, we deeply appreciate it!
Grooming Sunday evening cutting new track on Sap Run, Sukkerbusk, Mother North Star and JibFly. Groomer’s choices for skiing today. Also Roy’s Run, Twin Lakes choices for outer trails. All other trails groomed Friday and Saturday afternoon/evenings. Skate deck looks good on skaters waltz, just a hand full of bumpy spots.
The trails have a solid base of nicely seasoned snow. On average 6″ of compacted base on trail. Snow depth in woods on average 18″.
During “spring conditions” we groom later in the day which sets up the trails a bit harder after a hard freeze, but that is with intention and purpose. Harder tracks will last and take longer to soften when it warms up and sun is beating down. During “spring” conditions, we welcome the warmer temps in the afternoon to soften up the trails for skiing and grooming later in the day and evening.
We will continue grooming daily, as conditions dictate, working on select trails each day to have fresh tracks and always try to have the main trails Sukkerbusk and Sap Run in best condition possible.
Skating on Skaters Waltz, the extension loops, North Loup, Single Green, Kristin’s Kutoff and Eira Bikwadinaa Hill. All other trails are tracked for classic skiing. (Please no skating on classic trails) Sukkerbusk is a great starter trail for classic which feeds the outer trails and crosses most of the inner trails providing a good “lay of the land”.
We have also have a loop on Little Sugarbush Lake “Lumi’s Loop” with a skate lane and track on each side. This is a fun 1.2km loop that makes for a fun ski at sunrise and sunset and under the full moon! Groomed 2/11
43″ of snow so far this season. We have been grooming daily on the entire trail system since mid November, only missing a few days.
