Trail Report

Another fantastic February day on the trails. Morning grooming on JibFly with the Pisten Bull and ginzu grooming on Mother Hen. Temps did get above 32 but with thick clouds there was no melting as the snow is already transformed and transformed snow has a higher melting point. Rossman elementary kids out for the afternoon for skiing, sledding and skating and reports from skiers on the trail all good. There are a few thin/rough/icy couple small bare spots here and there but overall the skiing is very nice  considering the low snow year. A ski on North Loup late yesterday afternoon found fun and fast conditions. Cooler temps keeping the snow in place and no melting. Bit faster with some icy section on trails not freshed groomed but still some nice skiing to be had. Check the board near the office for the latest updates and which trails are in best condition.

Ski conditions rated good to excellent (thanks for your reports, we appreciate it!).

All 64km of trail open with track set on 56km of trail and 15km groomed for skating. 4km of snowshoe trail open. Ice skating rink in very good condition.

Compacted base on trail 2-6″. Snow depth in the woods 6-14″.  Total snowfall this season around 19″. Although this is a low snow year, we spend every dry day outside the winter season preparing the trails to be in the best condition possible so we can have good skiing on minimal snow and the newer grooming equipment does a nice job working with the snow to make for better skiing.

Trail Report

Cold and clear to start the day. First time we have seen the sun in the morning for almost a week! Temp down in the lower teens with surface frost. Light wind. Afternoon clouding up and temp right around 31 for a high before dropping to the mid 20’s at supper time and expected to continue to fall. The southern exposed hills softened up but no melting as the clouds moved in.  Great day of skiing. If it stays cloudy, do not expect to drop lower than the teens but if it clears off, combined with a full moon approaching, could get as low as 0.

This afternoon we groomed the courses for the Section 8 Nordic ski championships tomorrow and everything turned out as good as it could be given the snow we have. We were able to set full depth tracks on 95% of the classic course. A few southern exposed sections thin with icylike skiing but overall the tracks are great and should be some fast skiing. The skate deck is solid with good texture. We didn’t go as deep with the ginzu blades so the snow at the surface has more evidence of the frost that fell on Saturday and Sunday. The skate course looks great and is in good to excellent condition.

The skate course is skaters waltz to double green down to Suicide. Up Suicide before finishing up on skaters. Racing starts at 10am with the boys followed by the girls at 11am. The classic course starts on Sap Run until Mother North Star. Ski Mother North Star until finishing up on Sap Run/Sukkerbusk. Classic racing starts at 1:30 for the boys and 2:30 for the girls. Both courses start at the flag pole area as we have done with the other races this year. The above trails will be closed during the races but all other trails open for skiing. Please do not skate on the classic trails!! Thanks!

A great weekend of skiing on the trails. Temp stayed cool all through the weekend and no, if any snow loss. Stunning frost most of the weekend making it feel like a winter wonderland.  There are a few thin/rough/icy spots here and there but overall the skiing is very nice  considering the low snow year. Forecast calling for colder temps which should keep the snow in place and good skiing through the week.

Ski conditions rated good to excellent (thanks for your reports, we appreciate it!).

Trail Report

Another morning of incredible frosty conditions. Temp cooling down a bit lower last night , with lowest readings in the mid teens. Not as warm forecasted today so the snow should be dry and silky all day. Trails getting refreshed from frost falling from the trees. Skaters Waltz groomed last night. No other grooming as the trails groomed Thursday and Friday in good shape and holding out great. Friday saw no melting really with cooler temps than clouds moving back in mid afternoon. There are a few thin/rough/icy spots here and there but overall the skiing is very nice  considering the low snow year. Ski conditions rated good to excellent (thanks for your reports, we appreciate it!).

We have been shoveling on thin areas this week to build up base for Section race course which will be held on Tuesday February 7th. Sunday afternoon Skaters Waltz and Mother North Star will be closed to preserve the snow for Tuesdays race and these trails will also be closed on Monday for grooming and course prep. All other trails will be open and plenty of skiing options.
