Trail Report

The trails are open and skiing is great! Fantastic classic skiing with excellent tracks on Twin Lakes, JibFly, Sap Run and North Loup  as top picks. Warming up big time on Monday making for ideal conditions. Dusting of snow Thursday night with just under an inch of fresh snow. We have been grooming daily and groomed a good portion of the trail system on Friday. Sap Run, Loon Return and Wavy Gravy groomed Saturday morning. Fantastic weekend of skiing.  Thursday we took out the Pisten Bully trail groomer for the first time, mainly to do some testing to see if enough solid base and the end result was mostly good. We will be using the Pisten Bully when appropriate after a bit more new snow.

Very good reports from the trails (thanks to everyone who has submitted reports to skinnyski) and despite cooler temps, trails seeing solid skier traffic. There is no reason not to ski….bundle up and just ski!! Conditions are great!

6″ of new snow the past seven days. Conditions are fresh snow on top of hard, compacted base of 3-5″ Snow depth in the woods is 5-9″. Total snowfall since January 1st is 15″. Crisp and sunny for Tuesday. Grooming this morning on Roy’s Run and select inner trails. Trail Report

A nice day of skiing on Friday. Off and on snow squalls resulting in less than an inch of snow. Second cold front moving through late Friday night, dropping the temps down below 0. It will be chill on the trails today but some great skiing to be had. Skiing is good to excellent! The trails groomed up nicely and should be a great weekend of skiing. Temps keeping cool making for firm tracks and snappy skiing. There is no reason not to ski with the good conditions! Remember, no such thing as bad weather/cold temps, just bad clothing.

Just under 3″ of new snow this week. Conditions are fresh snow on top of hard, compacted base of 3-5″ Snow depth in the woods is 4-7″. Total snowfall since January 1st is 11″. Around 50km tracked for classic, 15km groomed skate. Sections of trail in the AMA area will not be groomed this year. Areas of thin cover and rough in the marshy crossings. Trail Report

Fresh snow!!  After a brief moment of freezing drizzle early this morning, light snow falling most of the day. As of 3pm,  around 3″ of accumulation. We groomed most of the morning in to the afternoon, covering around 35km of trail. We set new track on Sukkerbusk, Sap Run, Twin Lakes and JibFly. All the skate trails were combed/renovated and Suicide Hill groomed as well. Grooming we mixed the old snow with the new snow to help set up the snow. The new snow improving the skiing. We will continue grooming daily up to the weekend, setting track on some of the outer trails that haven’t had a track set this year (Roy’s Run, Wavy Gravy and Island Lake trails) and resetting on the inner trails. The new snow and cooler temps forecasted should make for nice skiing, especially classic. Skate skiing will be a bit slower now.

Conditions are fresh snow on top of hard, compacted base of 2-4″ Snow depth in the woods is 4-7″. Total snowfall since January 1st is 11″. Around 30km tracked for classic, 15km groomed skate and all other have a packed base or skier made track.  We will be adding to the total km of track set throughout the week. Sections of trail in the AMA area will not be groomed this year. Areas of thin cover and rough. Check the trail report board in the main lodge for the latest trail information.

Trail Report

The trails are open. After a brief moment of freezing drizzle, light snow, moderate at times, falling this morning. Around 1″ accumulation as of 9:30am and looks like we could get anywhere from 2-4″ depending on how the system pans out. Either way, just this snow so far will greatly improve the conditions and we are combing/working in the new snow this morning in to the afternoon.

A great weekend of skiing complimenting a full plate of activities!  Temps right around 30, sunshine and light wind. No melting on the trails. Yes, still some rough spots and hard areas but overall, all things considered, the skiing is quite nice. Skate lanes groomed daily the past 10 days as well as Suicide Hill.

Conditions are fresh snow on top of hard, compacted base of 2-4″ Snow depth in the woods is 3-6″. Total snowfall since January 1st is 9″. Around 30km tracked for classic, 15km groomed skate and all other have a packed base or skier made track. A few trails in the AMA area will not be groomed this year. Areas of thin cover and rough. Check the trail report board in the main lodge for the latest trail information.

Best trails for classic skiing are Sukkerbusk, Twin Lakes and North Loup. Sap Run, JibFly, Mother North Star and Rootin Tootin also have track set, bit more rough in spots but skiable. Skating is very good to excellent on Skaters Waltz. North Loup good for skating, just a few rough spots. Snowshoeing is good, folks skating on the ice rink as well and sledding happening in the back bowl.

Great day for the Section 8 Nordic Ski Championships on Tuesday. Nice job to all the skiers who participated and competed. Congrats to all the state qualifiers including local skiers Austin Askelson and runner up girls champ Berit Ramstad-Skoyles from Detroit Lakes who has skied many kilometers at Maplelag.

The trails are open. Trail passes for day skiing for non lodging guests are $15. Ski rental available at $15 a package. During mid week, lunch and day trail pass package available for $25. Call 218-375-4466 or email at [email protected] for more information
