Trail Report

Despite warm temps earlier in the week,  we are still hanging on to some coverage and have been skiing on the better sections of trail. A check of the trails Thursday, skiing Skaters Waltz and North Loup found mostly good coverage. Kamikaze section thin and not recommended to ski.  Still was a bit icy but just starting to soften up around noon making for fun spring skiing.  North Loup little better coverage with just one section very thin with a short bare spot. Skiing is poor to fair with some good sections and also thin bare sections. Use caution if venturing out and be ready for sudden bare spots and lots of forest debris. With the very warm forecast, we will most likely be closing the trails Friday afternoon. This includes being closed to skiing, hiking and mountain biking. Travel on the trails when the ground is soft can be most damaging and please walk/hike on the driveway or forest roads across the Maplelag driveway.

Total snowfall since December 15th=34″, compacted base on trail 0-8″. Snow depth in the woods 4-16″. Total snowfall since December 1st, 40″. Total snowfall since November 20th= 42″. We had a warm spell that melted most of the snow from November 20th and December 1st other than the north facing areas. First grooming of the season on November 20th after 2″ of snowfall. We have been skiing daily and only missed a few days of grooming since December 15th.

Trail Report

Crisp, cool with brilliant sunshine on Tuesday. Big time drop in the weather as strong winds ushered in a cold front early Monday morning with temps in the single digits the past few mornings. Very light dusting of snow coming with the cold front that has helped improve the skiing after cooling down from Saturday’s warm weather. Best reports coming from Twin Lakes, North Loup.

There is still good coverage on the trails and trails are skiable, albeit a bit icy. Little bit of new snow helping take off the edge. The ski season is winding down and grooming only on select trails at this stage of the ski season, focusing more on the skate trails. There is still some great skiing to be had, especially when it warms up again and we have true spring skiing conditions. The crust conditions are also excellent and tons of fun skiing to be had off the groomed trails.

Trails that have been recently groomed and open with tracks set: Sukkerbusk, Twin Lakes, North Loup, Rootin Tootin, Mother North Star, Sap Run, Wavy Gravy, Island Lake, North side of Bullhead lake trail and the Bootleg extension, Roy’s Run and JibFly. Skaters Waltz, the extension and North Loup groomed for skating. Please no skating on trails other than Skaters Waltz, North Loup and the extension of Skaters. North Loup also has a track set. Please note portions of certain trails will not be groomed this year due to change in the lease and management on AMA property.

Trail Report

Trails are open! Dusting of snow overnight with just under an inch an light snow. Light snow continues Tuesday morning. Up to another half inch expected. The new snow should slow down the skiing after fast conditions created from freezing down as result of warmer weather on Friday. The coverage is very good to excellent and folks are skiing. We had a nice weekend of skiing despite the variable conditions. We groomed Saturday morning on the key trails, (Sap Run, Sukkerbusk, Twin lakes, North Loup, JibFly, Rootin Tootin, Skaters Waltz, and Suicide Hill) The trails are set up now and firm. No grooming on Sunday as a light dusting of snow helped take off the hardness. We will be grooming throughout the week on select trails to have the conditions as best as possible. Still some great skiing to be had, use caution on the hills. Have fun and enjoy! Just ski!

Trail Report

Morning low checking in at 27 degrees on Thursday morning. Snow is dry and powdery, no melting and a great day of skiing on tap. Might get a bit slower in the afternoon if it does warm up but cloud cover will help keep snow fresher. Overall excellent skiing this week. Conditions couldn’t be much better. Dry snow with firm tracks throughout, some trails a bit more soft and powdery. There has been no melting and no ice.

Grooming Tuesday morning on 28km of trail with new tracks set on select trails and skaters waltz and suicide hill combed/renovated. Grooming Wednesday morning on select classic trails, North Loup and Skaters Waltz groomed late Wednesday. Looking at the forecast, next grooming planned Saturday morning to have best skiing possible on Saturday.

Looks to be warmer today and tomorrow but we are confident we will have good skiing on through the weekend. Spring like conditions anticipated. There is a solid base of snow and plenty of snow to work with to groom, condition and have nice skiing. Once we have a warm day, following days being warm are favorable to insure optimum spring conditions. We have experience grooming in all types of conditions and constantly monitor the weather to be ready to groom at the critical times to have the best conditions possible. Looks like a chance of snow after the warm up. Just an inch or so is all that is needed to freshen trails up nicely. We are not worried about the weather but looking forward to continued great skiing! Just ski!!
