A nice dusting of fresh snow overnight with 3″ of new snow. The first inch or so was wet and damp than last few inches more dry and fluffy. The new snow and cooler temps today (9 degrees at 8am) will make for nice skiing today. With warmer temps expected Thursday and Friday, skiing could get a bit sticky and slower with the new snow. Best skiing will be in mornings for faster and drier snow, afternoon for slower and stickier snow. Grooming on the Section Course and Lotvola Cup course today, roll packing than setting track/structure. (Sap Run, Mother North Star, Sukkerbusk, Twin Lakes, North Loup-Skaters Waltz) More trails to be groomed into the weekend.
Note: Please do not snowshoe or walk on ski or fat bike trails. Thank you! We have designated snowshoe trails for snowshoeing and walking. We take pride in having as “clean” as possible ski andfat bike trails.

A great day for the Section Preview Meet on Monday. Temps warmed up during the day but the snow held out great. Nice job to all the skiers competing on changing conditions throughout the day. Lots of smiles, hooting and hollering, good attitude=great skiing when there is snow on the ground!
Trails will be glazed/icy in the morning but softening as the day passes and good chance of snow in the afternoon. We plan to pack any new snow than reset most of the groomed track system Wednesday to Friday. With cooler temps later in the week and weekend combined with a solid base and any new snow, should have nice skiing well into the next week.

Warm weather softened the deck Monday and froze down hard last night. Great riding conditions this morning. Chance of snow later today, we are ready to groom if over an inch or two.
For best riding experience, run lower tire pressure and widest tires possible. (please no mountain bikes) If you are making ruts, you need to lower your tire pressure. It will also make the riding easier and more fun! Please no hiking or snowshoeing on Fat Bike trails. Maplelag is one of the few tracks in the country that have fat bike exclusive use providing a smooth and level deck.
Grooming update: Entire 25km loop is open and groomed. Most recent grooming on Tuesday February 16th.
To access the bootleg loop, take Skaters Waltz ski trail, riding on the side than take Suicide Hill singletrack to bottom of Suicide Hill to access the Bootleg loop. Back up Suicide Hill on Skaters Waltz and follow grooming and look for eventual signage to complete the loop and continue on to Twin Lakes. To ride just Twin Lakes access half way down the driveway. Sukkerwest singletrack is accessed at end of the driveway and is a great beginner or starter loop.
Thanks Ben Olson for the volunteer grooming and use of the snowdog groomer!

A great weekend on the trails with fantastic ski conditions. Quite the contrast to temps earlier in the week……almost 70 degree difference! Warm temps and intense sunshine on Sunday softening the snow on the south facing slopes. Tracks glazing down again at night. At dusk we groomed the trails for today’s ski meet, Sap Run, Sukkerbusk (first par to left), Mother North Star and Sap Run. Races will run from 10am to 4:30pm on the above trails. All other trails open to skiing. Watch for a few icy glazed areas on south facing but should soften quickly with warm temps expected in the afternoon. Recommended trails to ski include North Loup and the western trails.
Tracks and signs of wildlife everywhere. A few more porcupines visible from the trails. The local fox has been sighted by skiers which is neat to hear after seeing it on the trails cams the past month. It has been sighted near the end of Mother North Star trail. Porcupines have been sighted off Mother North Star and Roy’s Run trails, about 1/3rd the way in on both trails. Lots of other tracks including deer, wolf, coyote, pine marten, fox, and beaver to name a few. Also look for the new and active eagle nest at the start of Island Lake trail. You can also see the nest at the top of “eagle view” at the top of the last downhill on Twin Lakes trail. Many birds also to keep an eye for including the swooping pileated woodpecker.

Excellent skiing, conditions about as good as it gets! Entire groomed system reset before the weekend. Saturday top notch day with brilliant sunshine. Another nice day on tap Sunday, bit more overcast but no wind and temps in 20’s should make for lovely day.
