Porcupine above Sap Run trail eying photographer Joel Jackson this past President's weekend.
If you have skied Sap Run this year you have most likely seen the porcupine atop one of the trees, chewing on the limbs and branches. Joel Jackson, Maplelag guest this past weekend, watched the porcupine for 20 minutes before it finally turned and had a look down below. Latest trail report on the trail report page.
Excellent ski conditions. Crisp and cool on Sunday with temps in the single digits and a fresh wind from the north. Grooming this morning on Sap Run, Sukkerbusk, Twin Lakes, Wavy Gravy, Bullhead, JibFly, Skaters Waltz and extension of Skaters. All the trails are open, groomed and tracked for classic except Skaters Waltz and the extension. The compacted base is 6-12″ and snow depth in the woods is 16-32″. Few leaves blowing in to the tracks from the wind on Sunday but overall very nice conditions.
Great Presidents Weekend on tap. Ski conditions are excellent. We have been grooming the trails daily and are in fantastic shape after grooming in all the new snow from Sunday and Monday. All the trails are open and groomed. All trails tracked for classic except Skaters Waltz and the extension which are groomed for skating. Compacted base 7-12″ and snow depth 16-34″. We plan on re-grooming the entire trail system early Sunday morning, based on current forecast.
Grey Owl keeping an eye on the trail activity over Rootin Tootin. Lots of critters moving through the woods including a couple porcupines camped out in trees over the trails.
