This past week, we planted around 2500 trees in the Maplelag woods at Maplelag. Species planted include black spruce, Norway pine and Colorado spruce. Since the beginning of Maplelag almost 100,000 trees have been planted around the Maplelag complex and ski trails. A few trees have also been transplanted from various locations. Some of the fields that were planted with seedlings 25 years ago are now full healthy pine stands the skiers and bikers enjoy all four seasons.

Scenes From the Lake
It has been another beautiful Spring on the lake. The loons have been the highlight for sure and many nights are heard calling and dancing throughout the night and evening. The weather seems to change frequently making for some fantastic scenes on and around the water.
Trail Report
A wet weekend in the woods with over 1.5″ of precipitation since Thursday morning. The moisture was needed, however, and should really bring the woods to life. Cooler temps to start the week keeping the growth slower. The moisture also good for preparing the soil before we plant trees this week. We are scheduled to plant around 2500 trees. Despite the wet weather, we were on the mountain bike course riding in between the rain showers and a couple other folks on the trails.
The trails are open for mountain biking, hiking and trail running throughout the Spring and Summer. The trails are closed to horses and motorized use. There is no charge to use the trails and services are limited in the main lodge. The mtb course starts near the Great Northern Cabin and is marked for beginners to advanced riders. Follow the white signs with black arrows. The singletrack sections are labeled easier or more difficult/advanced. Rain forecasted the next few days might make for soft conditions but the course remains open.
