Lotvola Cup 2011

The Lotvola Cup is a cross country ski race where only the traditional technique is allowed. It will start on the lake with
the usual blast of dynamite to get everyone’s adrenaline pumping. It is an event for all levels of ability, from the
youngest skier to the serious competitor. A special Maplelag token (hat/pin/socks) is given to all finishers and ribbons are awarded to the top finishers in each age class.

But, the focus is on each individual having fun, feeling good about finishing and maybe bettering their time from the year before. We also award the “Mayor’s Cup” presented by Marci Hutchinson on behalf of Mayor Matt Brenk of Detroit Lakes. There is a chance for anyone to qualify for this honor, as a new category is determined each year and it is not announced until the race is finished.
(Farthest traveler, first registrant, youngest female finisher, are a few examples.) We also have a wooden ski division
for those that use “wood” skis. Overall awards to the first male and female. Please consider a return trip to Maplelag
for this event or make this your special weekend of the ski season.

· Start Time: 11 am Minnesota Youth Ski League Kids race at 1pm

· Course: 12K of Pisten Bully and Ginzu groomed, double tracked trail over varied terrain (woods, clearings)
· Awards: Awards to first 3 finishers in each class. All finishers are eligible to win the MAYOR’S CUP!

Trail Report

Frosty Friday with trees coasted with frost in the morning and beautiful conditions on the trails. Not quite as cold this morning with temp in the lower teens. Grooming this morning on Sukkerbusk,  Twin Lakes, JibFly, North Loup and Skaters Waltz.  North Loup groomed for skate and classic now. Ski conditions are very good with the only negative being a few scattered leaves and other forest organics.  The entire trail system was groomed Wed-Fri and should be some nice skiing on the weekend. We will groom as needed over the weekend but tracks should be in great shape all the way through. Compacted base 5-10″ and snow depth 15-30″.

Trail Report

A fantastic February day on the trails. After a morning low of -5,  temp warmed up nicely to the mid 20’s with bright sunshine and bluebird skies. Wind settled down after blowing stiff the past few days which brought down a few ironwood leaves and other organic matter. Grooming this morning in effort to clean up the tracks on Sap Run, Mother Hen, Sukkerbusk, Bullhead, Lucky’s Loype, North Loup and Roy’s Run. Grooming Wednesday morning planned on Island Lake, Wavy Gravy, Twin Lakes, JibFly and Skaters Waltz and extension. Conditions rated good to excellent. We are saying good because of the leaves that came down but with fresh grooming the skiing is very good to excellent.
