Wonderful weekend of skiing. Probably the warmest weekend this season with temps in the 25-32 range. Snow a little softer and slower on Saturday but all in fantastic skiing. Lot of skiers putting in big kilometers over the weekend. Colder temps moving in Sunday afternoon with a dusting of snow. Great time of the year to be in the woods with days getting longer and mild temps. Grooming this week as needed.
Compacted base 8-16″. Snow depth in woods 2-3 feet. 100% open on 64km. 57 km tracked for classic, 13km groomed for skating. Skaters Waltz/ extension, Suicide Hill and North Loup groomed for skating. There is also a track set on North Loup for classic.
Detroit Lakes Middle School students set for a day of skiing during "Exploratory Day".
Exploratory day is a chance for students to try different activities in the Detroit Lakes area and a group of 40 students came to Maplelag to try skiing today. Latest trail report on the trail report page.
Fantastic skiing. About as good as it gets. Nice day for the Exploratory students on the trails today. Entire trail system groomed earlier this week. Touch up grooming planned for Friday night and on through the weekend. Great time of the year to be in the woods with days getting longer and mild temps. A few areas of organic matter but otherwise trails are in great shape. The streets in town might be slushy but the snow is dry and powdery at Maplelag. We did not receive any freezing rain Friday morning.

Tamarack tree at sunrise on Twin Lakes crossing. The trees look dead in the winter time but they are the only coniferous tree to lose their needles in the Fall.
