Trail Report

Great skiing! Classic skiing some of the best of the year. Deep base of snow and conditions are holding out very well. We have been grooming daily since middle of December. Bit more debris on the singletrack trails with recent wind otherwise good skiing. No ice or crust.

80km of trail open. Around 50km of ski trail with tracks for classic skiing and 15km for skate. Around 5km no tracked/groomed for bushwhack skier made track skiing. 13km of trail designated for fat biking including the Twin Lakes singletrack. Snowshoe trail has seen good use and also many areas to explore fresh powder. Check board in entry of lodge for latest reports.

Bullhead lake trail along with the Bootleg extension now open and groomed. A few rough spots on the non groomed AMA segments and the north crossing. This scenic trail is designated as adventure skiing, and recommended to not use “race skis”. Please use caution if skiing Lucky’s Loype. Will be groomed again before the weekend. Check board in lodge for latest information.

Total snow depth in the woods 18-30″. Total snowfall on the season at 34″.

Sledding hill is open with plenty of powder and ice skating rink is open and ready for skaters!

There is no lodge or facility use (hot tub etc.) available for day use outside of the wax room and day skiing lounge room in lower level of lodge. Gjetost cheese from Norway one of the many items found on the Scandinavian Smorgasbord, served Sunday mornings at Maplelag during the Fall and Winter.

“Smorg” is a long time tradition of Maplelag featuring the Norwegian wedding cake kransekake, home made bread and muffins, fresh fruits, imported block cheeses and other Scandinavian traditional favorites. Served every Sunday during the winter season.

All meals are home cooked, prepared from scratch. We use only fresh and as many local ingredients as possible, and serve the meals family style. 26th DL Invite Ski Meet

One of the longest running HS Nordic ski races in the country featuring a continuous pursuit for varsity on Skaters Waltz for skate and Sap Run and Mother North Star for classic. The skate course will be the same as the Section course, utilizing Suicide Hill by going down than up on Single Green. JV classic on Varsity classic course and JR race on modified Skaters Waltz. Trails used for racing will be closed Wednesday afternoon for grooming and on race day. All other 55km of trail open for day skiers.

Lunch will be available for sale for spectators, provided for bus drivers, coaches and media personnel. All sales proceed the Maplelag High School Skiing scholarship program.

**The race will be a continuous pursuit, starting with classic style and a quick change to skate at the halfway point of the race.  

**The skiers may have assistance in the change over process.  

**If skiers use the same set of skis for both the classic and skate race, the skier must step completely out of the ski binding in the ski transition area before they will be allowed to continue the next leg of the race. 

Each leg of the race will be roughly 4.5 km in length.

***Varsity skiers will ski the pursuit format (limit 10 per school) Wave Start depending on numbers

***Jr. Varsity skiers will ski only a Classic race.  Mass Start

***Jr. High skiers will ski a Skate race.  Mass Start

Trail Report

Trails are open. Cooler temps in place after warmer weather on the weekend. Snow is holding out great and skiing is good. Most recent grooming on Twin Lakes, JibFly, Loon Return and Mother Hen, Sap Run, Sukkerbusk and the skate trails. Recommended skiing on these trails. Skiing reported as good to excellent. Trails not groomed past few days have a worn track in spots with a few icy areas. Use caution on outer trails, especially far end on Roy’s Run. Overall good to very good skiing. Keeping eye on possible snow tonight and into the weekend!

90km of trail open. Around 50km of trail groomed with tracks for classic only skiing and 15km groomed separately for skate only. Around 5km no tracked/groomed for bushwhack skier made track skiing. 20km of trail groomed separately for fat biking.
