Ski Trail Report

Very light rain falling this morning. A couple more days above freezing before we look to cool down. Having cold weather to set frost before snow is best case scenario.

We had a beautiful weekend with warm temps and welcomed sunshiny days. Even though our day time highs have been above freezing, we continued to freeze at night and the ground is staying relatively cold. This is important before we cool down for good, setting frost. Having frozen ground before the snow prevents melting underneath. Most of the smaller lakes and ponds are frozen over,Little Sugarbush glazing over again but opened up with wind and warmer temps.

It’s been a fantastic final push for working on the trails. We have been working on the outer trails, finishing Island Lake trail on Monday, Roy’s Run on Tuesday and Bullhead Bootleg extension on Wednesday. The rest of the week we have been touching up on the inner trails as we ready for colder weather next week. Grateful for this nice weather for late season trail tuning! Overall the trails are looking great and ready for freezing temps and the real snow to come! It doesn’t take much to open the trails, usually 3-4″ of dense snow and a grooming or two and select trails are skiable.

We will continue working on the trails right up until the snow that sticks for the season. Last minute fine tuning will have the trails ready for skiing on minimal snow. We try to have a few trails open for skiing by Thanksgiving, weather permitting. Bike trails will open for fat biking/winter riding later this month once the ground is consistently frozen.

A wintery start to November with 3″ of snow one week ago. Snow falling on top of frozen ground and was enough reason for an early season groom! We enjoyed a couple days of early season skiing and good to see a few other people out! Snow returned on November 9th with 1″ falling.
