A relatively dry week. Just a quick afternoon shower on Tuesday. Good hard freeze Friday morning with temps in the lower 20’s. We have been cutting trees from last weeks storm that dropped around 4″ of snow and clearing off branches and sticks. The trails are looking great other than a few more branches to clears and are ready for the “real” snow. The low areas on the inner and northern trails are very wet and have froze with the colder temps. Deer hunting begins this weekend and the trails are closed during this time. Hopefully snow in a few weeks and we can open up for some early season skiing!!
Mountain biking has been good this week including riding on the new singletrack at Twin lakes. The leaves remain clear for the most part on the singletrack and go into the next season in great shape. Trails are also closed for mountain biking unless they remain snow free after deer hunting and will open again until the snow comes.
Most of the snow from the storm earlier this week that dropped around 4″ of snow has melted off but enough hanging on Suicide Hill for a morning ski on crusty conditions. Fun to be skiing in October under a beautiful morning!! A lot of branches and twigs coming down from the high winds during the storm we have started clearing off otherwise the trails are in great shape and ready for the real snow to fly (which we hope for after a hard freeze to set up the ground and sloughs, typically the end of November).
The trails will be open at no charge until deer hunting season which is the first part of November. The mountain bike trails are wet and sloppy right now but if they dry out proper, will be open for riding, including the new singletrack at Twin lakes.
Another hard freeze last night with temps dropping down to the lower 20’s. Still hanging on to some of the snow from the storm earlier this week that dropped around 4″ of snow. A early morning moonlight ski Friday morning found good coverage on Suicide Hill and fast conditions leading to a beautiful sunrise. The coverage on the ski trails is spotty and most of the snow should slowly melt off today and tomorrow. A lot of branches and twigs coming down from the high winds during the storm we have started clearing off otherwise the trails are in great shape and ready for the real snow to fly (which we hope for after a hard freeze to set up the ground and sloughs, typically the end of November).

Beautiful sunrise Friday morning.
Skiing through the skinny field late Thursday afternoon.
A hard freeze last night making for some great late October crust skiing on the 4″ of snow that fell Tuesday night and Wednesday morning from the Record record beaking storm (as far as low pressure) Around 2″ of rain fell leading up to the snow. Enough snow Wednesday to head out on the trails for the first ski of the year. Sloppy for sure but always fun to see the “white stuff” first time of the season. A check of the inner trails didn’t find any big trees coming down, surprisingly, but lots of twigs and small branches that we will clear off the best we can. Otherwise the trails are in great shape and ready for the real snow to fly which we hope for after a hard freeze to set up the ground and sloughs, typically the end of November.
