Trail Report

A nice shot of snow Tuesday night with around 1.5″ of very dense snow. We groomed all the western trails, setting tracks, the skate loops and a couple of the inner trails setting tracks.  Grooming will continue on through the week to have the trails in best shape possible for the long MLK weekend. Tracks set where previous tracks set groomed up very nice. Island Lake and Wavy gravy still have a few rough spots but the new snow greatly improved conditions and every little dusting helps. Skiing is good!

Another beautiful day on the trails Tuesday. Sunshine, light winds and highs a bit warmer in the upper teens. Groomed include Sukkerbusk and Roy’s Run, setting tracks. The track on Roy’s is good on 75% of the trail and combed on the thinner areas. The snow last night should make for nice classic skiing. Monday grooming  on North Loup, Skaters Waltz, Sap Run, Mother Hen, and Mother North Star. We set tracks on Mother North Star with the Pisten Bully and also tried to set a better track on Sap Run and Mother Hen. Mother North Star groomed out fine. The new snow will cover up the rough spots and skiing should be good here now. W are pleased we know we can groom with the Pisten Bully working in any additional new snow.  Groomed trails for skating  include  North Loup, Skaters waltz and the extension. Groomed with tracks set include Rootin Tootin, JibFly, Twin Lakes, Sap Run, Mother Hen, Mother North Star and Sukkerbusk. All other trails are open with variable conditions but skiable with a skied in track.  The new snow and grooming making skiing nice. Check the board in the lodge for top picks for skating and classic. Currently Twin lakes and Skaters waltz top choices.
Day pass is $15 and ski rental is $15. Lunch available midweek by reservation.

Trail Report

A good weekend of skiing despite the low snow conditions. Temps in the single digits keeping the snow crisp and fresh and fast tracks with the hard crusty base.  Groomed trails include  Skaters waltz and the extension for skating and new tracks set on Rootin Tootin, JibFly, Twin Lakes and Sukkerbusk. Sap Run and Mother Hen combed. All other trails are open with variable conditions but skiable.  We didn’t get as much snow as we hoped for in the latest storm but we didn’t melt out and the dusting of new making skiing possible. There are some nice sections of skiing and skating is good. With the hard base the snow isn’t forgiving but folks are out on the trails enjoying the skiing that is available.
Day pass is $15 and ski rental is $15. Lunch available midweek by reservation.

Trail Report

Colder day on Wednesday with temps in the lower 20’s. Sunshine out in full force and the dusting of snow yesterday making for nice skiing today. We have had no “thaw” at Maplelag and the trails are holding out great. Grooming on Rootin Tootin, Mother North Star, double green and Suicide Hill Tuesday morning. Skiers on the trails this week enjoying the beautiful weather and reports all good.  A good chance of snow Thursday night on through  the weekend. Just 2-3″ will make for really nice skiing with the base we have. Until then, skiing has been good with the snow we have.

A great weekend of skiing. Members of the Breck Nordic, Visitation and Rochester Area Ski teams at Maplelag for training camps and weekend and day skiers hitting the trails. Skiing has reported better than expected with the snow we have and the weather has been ideal to be on the trails.  We also have a loop on the lake groomed for skate and classic which is around 3.2km. It has been very popular for all the guests and a nice option for all skiers whether for learning or cooling down from a long ski.  The past 2 weeks have seen a lot of skier traffic but the trails are holding out amazingly well considering the lower snow year. We have been shoveling and grooming almost daily to keep conditions skiable.  The trails groomed with tracks are shallow and thin but skiable throughout. Twin Lakes, Sukkerbusk and JibFly in the best condition for groomed track skiing (double tracked) and skaters waltz best condition for skate skiing. Skaters extension  getting better with continued dustings and grooming. A few more grassy spots but nothing to stop from having a great ski!  Mother Hen and Sap Run have one track set on the side and the rest of the deck is packed for open classic and good for no track classic skiing.  Rootin Tootin packed with no track set but fine for classic skiing. Wavy Gravy, Island Lake, Roy’s Run, Mother North Star,Lucky’s Loype and Bullhead are not packed but skied in with a skier made track and providing fun adventurous type skiing.  A check of the trails Monday found Island lake and Roy’s Run nice for a skier made track, much better than expected. North Loup has been groomed for skating but a bit more rough. Yes, we could use more snow but the snow we have is skiing nicely and with a few adjustments, good times to be had on the trails.

Thanks to everyone who has come to Maplelag so far this season with a “just ski” attitude and no whining!

Please no skating on trails besides those designated for skating. Please no walking on the ski trails. There are areas of thin cover and other unmarked obstacles on all the trails.  The ice is thick on the lake for skating with  10-12″ being reported and we have a nice area cleared off by the fire pit.  The rink on the ground is open for skating and we also have a large area cleared off on the lake. The sledding hill is open and the plunge hole is cut and open! Winter is on!

Trail Report

Great winter day on tap with -5 , no wind and clear skies to start the day. Another dusting of snow overnight. Grooming this morning on skate trails and Suicide Hill and the skate deck also groomed on lake next to tracks set on lake. Lake loop is around 3.2km. We did not set new tracks on the trails but the light dusting is great and will cover up the thin spots on the classic tracks. Every little bit helps! Ski skating yesterday was one of the best of the year with fast snow and good coverage. Skiing was fast on New Years day and good reports from the trail. A busy Holiday time period with skiers  but the trails are holding up well despite the shallow base. A few more bumpy and thin spots but overall some nice skiing to be had. The trails groomed with tracks are shallow and thin but skiable throughout. Twin Lakes in the best condition for groomed track skiing (double tracked) and skaters waltz best condition for skate skiing. Other trails groomed for classic, JibFly, Sukkerbusk, Mother Hen and Sap Run have one track set on the side and the rest of the deck is packed for open classic and good for no track classic skiing.  Rootin Tootin packed with no track set but fine for classic skiing. Sunday morning we had a low key skate race with around 20 people racing (click for results and photos). Thanks to everyone who participated!!  The course held up great to “racing speeds” with a few uphills showing a few rough spots but overall generally good “rock” skiing for the thin base. Skiers staying at the resort enjoying the trails including a few reports of people skiing the outer trails, Roy’s Run and Wavy Gravy.

The Lotvola Cup is postponed until a later date in the season

Swanson family set to hit the trails after being out earlier in the day, first time skiers! December 22nd, 2012.

Trail Report

Not as cold to start the day after Christmas. A very light dusting of snow with a little bit more to possibly come down by noon. Less than an inch expected. We will be setting tracks here and there on one side of the classic trails. The tracks is thin and down to the ground in spots but we are doing this so any new snow will fill in the thin spots. Just one track set on the side and the rest of the deck is packed for open classic. Skating is very good on skaters waltz. Rootin Tootin, Skaters Extension and North Loup were packed yesterday. Bit more rough on these trails but skiable throughout with caution.

We have groomed Twin Lakes, Sukkerbusk, JibFly, Mother Hen, Rootin Tootin and Sap Run for classic skiing (no track set, skier made track). Skaters Waltz has been groomed for skating and is the best condition for skating.  North Loup and Skaters Extension also groomed for skating but bit more rough on these trails.  Other trails are open for classic bushwhacking. Please no skating on trails besides those designated for skating. There are areas of thin cover and other unmarked obstacles on all the trails.  The ice is thick on the lake for skating with 7-10″ being reported and we have a nice area cleared off by the fire pit.  We are working on the rink on ground and a day or two will be ready. The sledding hill is open and few runs have been taken! Plunge hole has been cut!  Feels more like winter and we are having fun!
