The sounds and sights of spring are more prevalent each day. The ice went off Little Sugarbush on April 16th and on nearby lakes, the loons have returned and the water is busy with a nice variety of wildflowers. The ice off is always a special time of year, marking the transitions of seasons from winter to spring!
The trails are drying up and we are back in the woods doing trail work, focusing on the mountain bike trails. We are clearing sticks, branches and blowing out leafy areas.
Last weekend we were able to open the mountain bike trails. Nice to see a few folks out. Will be a few weeks to get all the signs out but open for diehards looking to get early miles in on dirt.
A few wildflowers are emerging from the forest floor and and a few other signs of spring with the forest floor and grounds slowly greening up.
Thanks everyone who supports the trails at Maplelag. We had a fun run to end the ski season. We appreciate you very much and can’t wait to have folks back on the trail for dirt season. Stay tuned for more updates.

The trails are now open for riding. Chilly morning on Tuesday with a freeze overnight. Trails will be greasy at the transition, best to wait until late afternoon or early evening.
Typical early season conditions with loamy/soft areas but rideable. Heavy rain Sunday night was good to pack the soil. We have 2-3 weeks to get all the signage out and best to ride if familiar with the trails. Please stay on the side of the ski trails where soft.
The snow the week before has helped pull the frost out and dry the trails out. The thick layer of snow helped keep the ground from freezing and the moisture seeping from the snow helped melt the frost.

A beautiful early Spring weekend before rain moved in last night with snow showers this morning! A dusting of new snow after .90″ of rain Sunday evening. Little Sugarbush lake very close to being ice free. Nearby Bullhead lake lost ice on Friday.
Drying enough over the weekend to have the trails open for mountain biking. Nice to see a few folks out. Will be a few weeks to get all the signs out but open for diehards looking to get early miles in on dirt.

The trails are very close to being fully opened for mountain biking. There are segments, mainly the starter loop, that are rideable and open for any local diehards itching to get out. We have 2-3 weeks to get all the signage out and best to ride if familiar with the trails. Please stay on the side of the ski trails as they are still soft.

After skiing last weekend, the trails are drying up and very close to be fully open for mountain biking and woods travel. A few wildflowers are emerging from the forest floor and and a few other signs of spring.
Although forest travel is limited with the melt freeze cycle, we will work on the trails in the morning when frozen, mainly cutting deadfall for next winter firewood.
