Trail Report

Great day on tap for the last day of February! Snow and trails are holding out great. We have transitioned to spring-like conditions. Usually faster in the morning than slowing down in the afternoon when it warms up. Watch for glazing earlier in the day than softening on the southern exposed areas in afternoon…. otherwise some fantastic skiing to be had!  Deep base of snow to work with on the daily grooming. New track set on JibFly, North Loup and Sukkerbusk this morning, Tuesday evening grooming on Sap Run, Poki Loki, Sukkebusk and skate lanes on Skaters Waltz and North Loup. Suicide Hill and Single Green also groomed Tuesday evening.

Tuesday morning grooming on Sap Run, Sukkerbusk, Twin Lakes, Wavy Gravy,  Loon Return and Rootin Tootin.

Top choices to ski the next few days include North Loup, Sukkerbusk, Skaters Waltz and whatever was groomed additional in the morning. Check board in entry for latest updates.

18″ of new snow from three storms last week.  We have been grooming daily on the trails, focusing on 58km of trail currently. The remaining trails, Roy’s Run, Island Lake,  Lucky’s Loype and Bullhead recently groomed but fresh snow on top from Saturday night and skied in on these trails. Expect softer conditions compared to skiing the last two weeks. Overall beautiful skiing!  We are saving the snow on Island, and Roy’s this week to be groomed in fresh on Friday. These trails are still open and nice skiing nonetheless.

Even though our snow totals might be lower, we can provide good skiing on less snow. We spend every day possible in the spring, summer and fall clearing key trails to be able to open on low snow. We groom the first snowfalls even if not skiable after, to prepare the base for future snowfalls and earlier skiing on less snow.  We take pride and use decades of experience when grooming and preparing the trails for skiing to have them in the best condition possible “whatever the weather”.

Please no  walking on the ski trails or fat bike trails. There is also snowshoeing available, on trails and anywhere not on the ski trails.

Trail Report

A repeat of yesterday, a cold day with temp having a hard time getting above -20 but folks out skiing all day. Taking short loops and outings.  Sunshine, no wind in the woods and low dew point helping take off the edge and making for another great day on the trails. We will be open through the cold weather and people will be out skiing. The wind is generally a non factor at Maplelag and don’t pay attention to windchill when winds are light and factors such as the dew point make more of a difference in how it “feels”. Dress proper, take shorter runs and no reason not to ski and enjoy great conditions! Wind forecasted to be light which helps big time and we are protected in the forest as well.

Ski conditions rated very good to excellent for early season.  Around 11″ of new snow the past 8 days.

Fat Bike trail on Twin Lakes Singletrack open and groomed multiple times already.  Latest grooming December 28th. Latest report: Fat Bike Report

11″ of new snow past 8 days. Total snowfall this season at 21″ Snow depth in the woods 6-12″, compacted base where groomed 3-6″.

Day skiing is allowed by purchasing a trail pass. Pass can be purchased online.  Ski rental available at $15 per day. Snowshoes and fat bikes also available for rent. If not staying at the resort, it is best to contact us during busy times (Dec.26-Jan10 and weekends) for availability.

The Twin Lakes singletrack open for fat biking again this year and has been groomed multiple times. Please no fat biking  or walking on the ski trails or fat bike trails. There is also snowshoeing available, on trails and anywhere not on the ski trails.

Sap Run, December 23rd, 2017.

It’s a bit rough on the north end of Roy’s Run but take skis off and walk through. Is it worth it for skiing the rest of the 10km loop when starting at Maplelag and  return? Yes.  Dusting of snow after grooming helping out with coverage, just and inch or two will greatly improve in this area.
