Mountain Bike Trail Report

Mountain bike course is open. Dry conditions.Track is rolling great and conditions are looking great for the Laddies Loppet race this coming Sunday! A beautiful evening for the local high school team “Wolves” Tuesday evening. The course is open for pre riding and marked. Check the MNMBS for race times, distances etc.

Note: Sport women will be racing on the Citizen course. Elite men will be the only class doing a starter loop. It is marked. The start is near the Red Caboose and the point of entry to access the course for pre- riding.

We will be focusing our trail work efforts on the race course for Laddies Loppet leading up to race day on Sunday September 3rd to have conditions as best as possible. Post race weekend is always some of the best riding of the season and a great time to do the LagChilada!

Always be aware for changing conditions and assume all responsibility riding.  The Maplelag course is generally described as a classic or natural trail which is rideable shortly after any rain events as the rain is absorbed and drains off naturally.

All the key intersections are taped and signs are at singletrack segments. The singletrack segments are signed by name and courses are generally marked for the Minnesota Mountain Bike Series with Citizen, Sport, Comp and Expert. Any singletrack that is not marked where it crosses ski trail, continue straight on the singletrack. Reference our map or TrailForks or Strava for guidance.

The Lagchilada challenge is in place which is a ride consisting of the entire mountain bike trail system. It is marked with both black signs and pink signs. Use the Strava app or guidance.

A good intermediate loop to ride is the Sport Loop and Bullhead Bootleg to the east. A good beginner loop to ride is the Citizen loop as well as the loops “Feeling Lucky” and “Sukkerwest”. North Loup Gnar on the north side is a slow tech skills trail.

Like this winter, trail users are welcome to use the Brant cabin for a changing area and there are also bathrooms. Please note we are remodeling in this cabin but the bathrooms are open.  Season passes available on our gift shop page.

The start area will be located in this area and point of entry to access course for pre riding.Access this area from the driveway.

Trail Report

Beautiful last summer weather with dry conditions. It’s been a great summer of trail work and we are getting excited for the cooler months ahead after a very nice summer. Dry conditions in place after a 10 day period that saw much welcomed rainfall with just over 3″ of precipitation. The ponds, sloughs and lakes are still low but the recent rain has definitely helped and the forest floor and woods is healthy and green.

A few signs of early fall with leaves changing in a few spots and falling to the forest floor. We continue to work on the trails clearing deadfall and mowing in the lower areas that still have grass growing good. We are also working on the mountain bike trails almost daily as we prepare for the Laddies Loppet mountain bike race on Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

The mountain bike trails are open for ridingClick here for latest update. Maplelag trails are closed to all motorized use and horses. We continue with trail tuning as we constantly work on the 64km of ski trails for upcoming ski season and maintain 25 miles of mountain bike trail.
