Fat bike trails are open. The entire FatLagChilada loop has been groomed multiple times this year. The loop consists of the InnerEast loop and InnerWest loop. The trail is rolling good, a few sugary/rutted spots but overall nice riding and no reason not to ride! Please ride in the morning during the warm up to preserve the integrity of the base. Also if you need to walk any hills, please push bike on the trail and walk on side of the groomed deck. If you are stinking in, check the tire pressure for better rolling and riding experience. Thank you! This will help preserve the deck during warm weather.
The Inner East loops starts on Skaters Waltz to the right and follows along the side dipping into singletrack before going across Bullhead lake to access the Bootleg singletrack loop. Back across the lake to skaters waltz and more singletrack before crossing the road and left in to Maplelag. Signs are out marking the Fat Bike trail and we are woking on placing the FatLagChilada signs. The west or Twin Lakes loop can be accessed from the Maplelag driveway including the Sukkerwest loop which is at the end of the Maplelag driveway.

Trails are open. Temperature has been staying below freezing this week and the base of snow we have is holding out well and skiing good, all things considered. We plan to keep the trails open the rest of the week and into the weekend and probably will close the trails on Monday to preserve the snow. Best skiing will be in the mornings if it does get warmer than forecasted but with thick cloud cover and zonal flow, we could stay around or just below 30 degrees through Sunday.
Tracks are set on Sap Run, JibFly, Sukkerbusk, Mother Hen, Poki Loki, Loon Return, Rootin Tootin, Wavy Gravy, Mother North Star, Twin Lakes and North Loup. Please do not skate on trails packed for classic.Skating on Skaters Waltz and the extension loops and North Loup only.
Top choices for classic skiing are Mother North Star, Rootin Tootin and North Loup.
Early season conditions, the base is still thin watch for rough spots, areas of thin cover and unmarked obstacles but very skiable and reports from the skiers have been good.
The Brant cabin is open as a warming house. The main lounge area has a Kuerig for hot chocolate/coffe/tea and there are simple snacks available to purchase on honor system. Store is open on the weekends, usually in the afternoon.

Trails are open. Temperature has been staying below freezing and the base of snow we have is holding out well. With warmer temps forecasted later in the week, best to plan skiing in the morning if possible. This will also keep the integrity of the base intact and provide best skiing days beyond and make it easier to groom. If trails are rutted then freeze, it is very difficult to smooth out the ruts with the thin base we have. We plan to keep the trails open the rest of the week and into the weekend.
Tuesday and Wednesday we shoveled on Mother North Star and Sap Run building up the base. We also combed out all the skate trails, Skaters Waltz, North Loup and the extension loops of Skaters Waltz. We will continue building up the base on select trails and grooming mostly on Skaters Waltz before the weekend.
We have been grooming daily on all 64km of trail. Currently we have 34km of trail tracked for classic and 15km open for skating. All other trails are open for 15km of no track classic skiing. 4km of bushwhacking/adventure skiing with a skier made track (Lucky’s Loype) Last week we packed Bootleg extension loop using Bullhead lake as an access point. Once we get a few more inches to track Bootleg, we will track a loop around the lake. Currently the lake is tracked across the lake.

Monday evening we worked on Skaters Waltz shoveling snow on some thin areas and grooming out the loop. We do not plan to reset tracks until more snow but all the tracks are holding out well all, things considered and very skiable. Watch for a few thin spots here and there.
A great weekend of skiing. Nice seeing everyone out, thanks for sharing your ski experience on Skinnyski.com and we appreciate the season pass purchases this late into the season…. but hopeful the season will run late! Saturday we hosted a short notice High School ski race and was awesome to have the energy of the kids on the trails again.
