Fat bike trails are open. Good hard freeze overnight will have the deck solid this morning. Overall the trail is rolling good, a few sugary/rutted spots but nice riding. Best riding will be in the morning when temperature is below freezing. Great seeing all the riders out on Saturday!
If you need to walk any hills, please push bike on the trail and walk on side of the groomed deck. If you are stinking in, check the tire pressure for better rolling and riding experience. Thank you! This will help preserve the deck during warm weather.
The Inner East loops starts on Skaters Waltz to the right and follows along the side dipping into singletrack before going across Bullhead lake to access the Bootleg singletrack loop. Back across the lake to skaters waltz and more singletrack before crossing the road and left in to Maplelag. Signs are out marking the Fat Bike trail and the “FatLagChilada” loop which is all the groomed fat bike trails. The west or Twin Lakes loop can be accessed from the Maplelag driveway including the Sukkerwest loop which is at the end of the Maplelag driveway.

Trails are open. A great day on the trails. Beautiful frost highlighted by the late morning and afternoon sun. Great to see so many people out on the trails today. It did get warm and soften in the afternoon but should freeze hard tonight. With that said, expect some iciness before it softens again. We are grooming on the skate lane on Skaters Waltz and North Loup this evening. Looking at the forecast, we will plan to have the trails closed next week in effort to save the base we have with warmer weather moving in.
Tracks are set on Sap Run, JibFly, Sukkerbusk, Mother Hen, Poki Loki, Loon Return, Rootin Tootin, Wavy Gravy, Mother North Star, Twin Lakes and North Loup. Please do not skate on trails packed for classic.Skating on Skaters Waltz and the extension loops and North Loup only.
Top choices for classic skiing are Sap Run, Mother North Star, Rootin Tootin and North Loup.
Early season conditions, the base is still thin watch for rough spots, areas of thin cover and unmarked obstacles but very skiable and reports from the skiers have been good.
The Brant cabin is open as a warming house. The main lounge area has a Kuerig for hot chocolate/coffe/tea and there are simple snacks available to purchase on honor system. Store will be open this weekend.

Trails are open. Temperature at Maplelag has been staying below freezing this week and the base of snow we have is holding out well. Reports from people skiing have been good. We plan to keep the trails openthrough the weekend. With possible warmer temps and sun in the afternoon Saturday and Sunday, best to ski in the mornings, if possible, for better skiing and help us preserve the integrity of the deck. With the thin base it is difficult to groom out ruts if they freeze overnight.
