Moosejaw 2014

This annual music and dance weekend has gained a national reputation among dancers and old-time musicians. The second weekend in March 200 people gather for workshops, dances, jamming, and fun. The fun includes skiing on 64KM of groomed trails at Maplelag, a cross-country ski resort that’s been home to MooseJaw for many years. The setting is beautiful; we have use of the entire lodge. The huge hot tub is a hit with worn-out dancers and every year a few brave souls jump in the lake (through a hole cut in the ice) after relaxing in the sauna. The emphasis is on old-time music and square dancing, but we like to mix it up, too. In addition to a great old-time band and experienced caller, every year a second band performs for dances and we offer related workshops. In the past we’ve offered workshops in swing, Cajun, zydeco, and Scandinavian dancing.

Trail Clearing

With the majority of leaves falling from the trees the past week, we have begun clearing leaves off the main ski trails. Clearing leaves allows the ground to cool down faster, set in frost and able to ski on a few inches of snow on the grassy surface.
