Trail Report

A dusting of snow Friday afternoon helping to improve the conditions.  The new snow taking off the icy edge on the classic tracks. The new snow was groomed in on skaters waltz and part of the lake loop. This morning and evening North Loup, Skaters Waltz and Suicide Hill groomed for skating and the loop on the lake also  groomed for skating. The  best bet for classic skiing is Twin Lakes and Sukkerbusk that has the best tracks. Sap Run and Mother Hen okay as well.

The majority of trails have good coverage and won’t take much new snow to have good skiing again.  In the mean time we are enjoying the snow we do have and doing everything possible to make for better conditions. All the trails are open but caution must be used on downhills and areas where it is rough.

We are planning on hosting a ski meet on Tuesday with Skaters Waltz and Suicide Hill as the race course. If we are not able to provide a safe course on the trails, we will use a loop on the lake. It will be skate only.

To preserve the snow, we ask that people do not hike on the trails.

Trail Report

A dusting of snow late yesterday afternoon helping to improve the conditions a little bit. The new snow taking off the icy edge on the classic tracks. The new snow was groomed in on skaters waltz and part of the lake loop. This morning grooming plans on North Loup, Skaters Waltz and Suicide Hill for skating. The loop on the lake also will be groomed for skating. The  best bet for classic skiing is Twin Lakes and Sukkerbusk that has the best tracks. Sap Run and Mother Hen okay as well.

Friday: Even though the temp only dropped to 32 after hi near 50 on Thursday, the trails froze down nicely and we were able to groom on the lake and also groomed skaters waltz. The lake groomed up well, especially the west side, and will be a nice option for weekend skiing. No tracks set. Skaters waltz was groomed multiple times and was very skiable after the third pass. Still some icy spots but enough to get an edge for the most part and have skiable conditions.  The majority of trails have good coverage and won’t take much new snow to have good skiing again. All the trails are open but caution must be used on downhills and areas where it is rough.

To preserve the snow, we ask that people do not hike on the trails.

Trail Report

A gorgeous day in the woods. Morning started out frosty with temps in the teens. Did warm up to the mid 30’s but the snow held out great and a ski on the classic trails at dusk found great skiing with a just few minor icy spots. Snow more powdery than I thought.  Using rock skis. The lake was packed this morning and tomorrow evening we will comb and set track on the side. The loop is around 3.5km going in and out of the bays and pockets.  No other grooming today as we are preserving the snow for any possible warm weather and did some shoveling in the start area to enhance the base. We will spend most of the day tomorrow shoveling on the thin areas. Skate skiing is very good with Skaters Waltz and the extension the best skiing. North Loup also open for skating and classic skiers heading up there as well. Classic skiing has been nice with the snow that we have.

All 64km of trail open. 15km groomed for  skate. Around 15km of trail tracked for classic skiing.  The remaining 34km is packed and skier tracked (no skating please). The base is thin for sure but setting up and skiing very well for how low snow we have. There are definitely thin and rough spots but overall people have been pleased with the conditions and reports are generally better than expected. We are starting to see a few local skiers.

We will not be setting any new tracks until more new snow and not resetting the current tracks until more new snow. The tracks that exist are as good as they can be and re-grooming will bring up more forest matter and take away the hardness. The skate lanes will be touched up as needed. Now that we have a base of snow and snow on the sides to work with, the trails should hold out just fine during any warm spell. The base is 2-4″ and snow depth is around 4-7″. Total snowfall this season including snow from November is 12″. We will be grooming on the lake for both skate and classic for the ski camp this weekend.

Trail Report

A beautiful day on the trails. Not taking anything away from all the other great days on the trails but today has to be the tops so far this season. The new snow from yesterday groomed in nicely and cold temps in the single digits set the tracks up hard. The wind died down and sun was out most of the day making for as good as it gets for a January day.

We groomed about 52km this morning, setting track on about 15km and grooming all the skate trails for 15km. The remaining 34km is packed and skier tracked.

The skate lanes will be touched up again tomorrow than left alone if the forecasted warm weather happens than groomed again before the weekend. Now that we have a base of snow and snow on the sides to work with, the trails should hold out just fine during any warm spell. The base is 2-4″ and snow depth is around 4-7″. Total snowfall this season including snow from November is 12″.

Trail Report

January starting out like January! Temps falling during the day with a nice breeze from the northwest but quite pleasant in the woods. Snow flurries off and on accumulating to an inch or two. Grooming on 38km of trail this morning. Skaters Waltz, extension and North Loup combed for skating, Twin Lakes, Sukkerbusk, Sap Run, Mother Hen and Lucky’s Loype groomed and track set where there good snow covered. The north and east facing sections of Sukker and Twin tracked the best and nice classic skiing. With snow falling after track setting and wind blowing snow in to tracks, it works!  There is 3-6″ of snow in the woods and the base is 1-3″.  Skaters waltz, the extension and North Loup are groomed for skating and classic skiers skiing on North Loup as well. All the trails have been groomed except Roy’s Run and we plan to pack that out this week. There are a few rough and thin spots but folks are out skiing and enjoying the fresh snow. The cool temps are making for much better skiing today.
