Trail Report

Relatively dry week until Friday afternoon. A  shower passing through leaving 2/10ths of an inch of precip. Great riding on the course this morning. The best part was the general absence of deer flies. Possible they are at the end of their cycle which would be very nice. Mushrooms have exploded from wet weather and interesting to see the wide variety in the woods.  Folks have been hitting the trail pretty much daily. A few mud spots here and there from the recent rain. We have brushed out the lakeside drops and blown out the singletrack and conditions are very good to excellent. A few areas still brushy.  The water tables are are at near record levels from the wet June and July. Mosquitoes starting to multiply with the wet conditions but if you keep moving, not as bad.  We have been working on the trails including maintenance work on the singletrack and have been mowing on the ski trails, preparing them for winter and cutting trees from winds earlier this month. The ski trails are in great shape for this time of year.

The trails are open for mountain biking, hiking and trail running throughout the Summer. The trails are closed to horses and motorized use. There is no charge to use the trails and there are no services in the main lodge at this time with camp going on. If you do ride, all we ask is you clear and sticks etc. if you can.  The mtb course starts near the Great Northern Cabin and is marked for beginners to advanced riders. Follow the white signs with black arrows. The singletrack sections are labeled easier or more difficult/advanced. The advanced loop is around 7.4  miles, taking 50min to 1.5 hrs to complete. Please park in the parking lot by the first freight house as you enter the Maplelag property. Enjoy!

Trail Report

An unusually low pressure system created some fantastic storms Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Just under 3″ of rain in 12 hours. There was no wind or tornado activity despite favorable conditions. The trails will be wet for a day until they get a chance to dry up. Riding on the bike course has been great with folks hitting the trail pretty much daily. A few mud spots here and there from the recent rain. We have brushed out the lakeside drops and blown out the singletrack and conditions are excellent. The water tables are are at near record levels from the wet June. Deer flies coming out now in full force and mosquitoes starting to multiply but if you keep moving, all good and riding with the slightly cooler weather, the deer flies haven’t been as noticeable.  We have been working on the trails including maintenance work on the singletrack and have been mowing on the ski trails, preparing them for winter and cutting trees from winds earlier this month. The ski trails are in great shape for this time of year.

Trail Report

After a hot day on Saturday capping off an above normal in temperature week, cooler temps moving in Sunday and Memorial day with a quick shower Sunday morning.  Looks like a slightly cooler week on tap compared to last week.  Should be great riding on the bike course this week.  Few more wildflowers coming out this week and hummingbirds returned (and a unique phinx moth!).  Still a few wet spots in the woods from last weekends rain but riding has been excellent on the bike course and majority of course dry and in excellent condition. Groups of riders hitting the trail almost daily. The woods and underbrush has filled out completely and feels and looks like July!! Dragonflies out in full force with just a few mosquitoes.  We cleared the deadfall that was on the course and also did some trail work, building some berms. We have also started mowing on the ski trails, preparing them for winter!

The trails are open for mountain biking, hiking and trail running throughout the Spring and Summer. The trails are closed to horses and motorized use. There is no charge to use the trails and there are no services in the main lodge at this time. The mtb course starts near the Great Northern Cabin and is marked for beginners to advanced riders. Trail Report

After a wet week that saw almost 2″ of precipitation in a 5 day period,  Friday dry and sunny with temps climbing to the upper 50’s. The woods will definitely “fill out” with the warm temps and recent rain. Looks relatively dry on the weekend so conditions should be good for travel on the trails.

Trail Report

Off and on rain showers this morning accentuating the sights, sounds and smells in the woods.  The warm and early Spring has continues to bring the forest to life for the next season. More wildflowers, underbrush and tree blossoms coming to fruition this week. The loons, swans, geese and return of migratory birds sounds through the woods. Riding on the mountain bike course this week has been been pretty much perfect, thanks to dry conditions and having the short notice race “buff” out the course. Rain Thursday and Friday making conditions soft and muddy again.  Walking through the woods and what not it looks more like the middle third week of May instead of the last week of April. Hard to believe two years ago we were still skiing on record snowfall in April!!

The trails are open for mountain biking, hiking and trail running throughout the Spring and Summer. The trails are closed to horses and motorized use. There is no charge to use the trails and services are limited in the main lodge. The mtb course starts near the Great Northern Cabin and is marked for beginners to advanced riders. Follow the white signs with black arrows. The singletrack sections are labeled easier or more difficult/advanced. Rain forecasted the next few days might make for soft conditions but the course remains open.
