Bit cooler today with early morning low at 16 degrees, overcast and frosted trees. Chance of light snow this afternoon. Fresh grooming on 12 trails: Skaters Waltz, Sukkerbusk, Sap Run, Mother Hen, JibFly, Rootin Tootin, Mother North Star, Roy’s Run, Single Green, Double Green and the left track fresh groomed on Twin Lakes and Wavy Gravy. Trails groomed up relatively nice with some areas about as good as it gets and other areas still a bit icylike/glazed/crunchy, mainly the southern exposed areas. Areas of leaves and forest matter. All in all should be some nice skiing today and tomorrow and any new snow will enhance the conditions. Grooming on Sunday planned on North Loup and Sukkerbusk with new tracks , and a touch up on Skaters Waltz down the middle.

Trail Report
A warm day on the trails with the temp reaching near 40 but still some very nice skiing. Fresh grooming this morning on Loon Return, Island Lake, Wavy Gravy, Twin Lakes, Bullhead, Lucky’s Loype, Skaters Waltz, Skaters Waltz extension and the skate lane on North Loup. Skiing on these trails was very nice today. Temp a bit warmer than forecasted so the dry snow that was pulled up softened and some areas glazed over again. Grooming in the morning planned on Sukkerbusk, Roy’s Run, Rootin Tootin, Mother North Star, Mother Hen, Sap Run and a new track set on Twin lakes and Wavy Gravy. Skate lane on Skaters Waltz also planned to be groomed. These trails should provide nice skiing for Saturday. Sunday as well if temp stays below 34 degrees. Reports from the trail all good as folks enjoyed skiing in the mild temps.

Snow Rollers
On January 30th, 2009 we saw our first day above freezing for the winter season 2008-09 when the temperature hit near 40 degrees. We also had high winds with gusts in Detroit Lakes area reported at 50mph. Since we had no days before that to “transform” the snow, the snow was still dry and fluffy. A combination of high winds and the snow sticky at the surface but light enough to form a ball when pushed by the wind, snow rollers formed in a few select open areas. This is a phenomen not seen very often. Photos below taken in Roy’s field which is the field Skaters Waltz extension loops around.
Trail Report
A beautiful day on the trails. Morning low in the single digits, light winds and sunshine warming up to around 30 degrees. A bit of wind yesterday afternoon in to the evening but the weather has settled down and looks like some mild weather on tap through the weekend. Grooming on the trails tomorrow and Saturday morning. Areas of forest matter scattered on the trails but all in all the trails are in great shape with icy spots in the exposed areas on trails not recently groomed that should dis-appear with grooming. We also flooded the rink earlier this week, and despite a few bumpy spots, the rink is in great shape as well. Skiing this afternoon found more snow rollers in Roy’s field. Check out the photos on this page.
