Felt like January early this morning with temp dropping down to 14 degrees!! Calm and clear conditions with sunshine….beautiful day in the woods. A little bit of snow left in the woods from Friday’s snowfall. Trails froze hard last night and many of the smaller ponds iced over as well. Good morning for Fall grooming as we prepare the trails for when the snow falls for real.
Trails are open for hiking, running, and biking but closed to motorized use and horse traffic.
Maplelag received its first accumulating snowfall of the year when 2-3″ of snow fell Friday night. The ground was warm, with the first flakes melting but cooled down enough for an inch or two to stick to the trails and a chance to log the first ski of the year. Temp last few nights cold enough to set up ice on some of the smaller ponds and sloughs!! Definitely the earliest that has happened in Maplelag history. Of course it is early in the year to have snow that sticks with leaves still on the trees etc. but we are keeping an eye on a potential weather system for Sunday night that could result in more snow!! Quite a change in a 24 hour period!
Jake skiing up Suicide Hill, logging the first ski of the year.
Fresh snow on Loon Return ski trail Saturday morning.
Snow moving through Friday night resulting in a couple of inches on the trails and grassy areas and enough for the first ski of the year! Photos from first snow and skiing!
