Mountain Bike Trail Report

Select trails are open! Extremely dry conditions this week has firmed up much of the course. We have the inner, east (Bootleg) and north (North Loup Gnar) segments open for riding. The west segments (Twin Lakes and Sukkerwest) need 5-7 more days of drying. With the rapid melt and rainfall last weekend, there are a few low areas holding water to ride around. We are in the process of blowing out the trails and clearing deadfall/downed branches etc. Good early season riding conditions for Maplelag. We will be marking the course the next week or so. If you have not been to Maplelag before to ride, it might be best to wait a week or two until the inner segments are marked fully.

Trail Report

After a dusting of snow kicking off the start of the week, warm and more seasonable weather in place. The warm temps has all but melted the snow from the trails and frost is slowly coming out. Around 1.25″ of rain over the weekend. Just a few signs of spring on the forest floor but the woods alive with the sounds. Many waterfowl species enjoying open water everywhere and sounds of the first loons heard as they wait for the ice to go off the lakes.

We have been clearing deadfall off the trails when the ground has been frozen but waiting for trails to dry up to resume. We also will be planting trees in the next week or so.

Mountain bike trails will open as soon as the frost is out and dry up completely. There are a few segments that are rideable but ski trails need time to dry out and set up. Click on the mountain bike report for latest conditions.

Ski Trail Report

Trails are now closed for the season. (Be sure to check back on the trail report page for updates as we transition to summer.) We hope to have the mountain bike trails open in 2-4 weeks. Please be patient to let the dirt dry out proper!

A special end of season ski Thursday capping off a great month. Thanks everyone who made it a great season and supported the trails at Maplelag. April skiing was one of the best April’s we can recall.

Around 3-4″ of new snow on Wednesday. Late evening after cooling down and crusting over, we groomed the 4km late season loop. We groomed out a skate lane and also set a track. Skiing was very nice into the afternoon, especially classic.

With the grooming in April, this is the 6th consecutive calendar month we have groomed this season. First grooming was back on November 13th, 2021.

Season total of snowfall at 123″ after Wednesday’s snow. Snowfall on Sunday breaks the previous record of 118″ of total snowfall in a season. Considering the dry summer and fall, the precipitation will bring the water tables back up to normal when the snow all melts and the frost goes out.

We are hopeful the trails will dry out in 2-4 weeks for hiking and mountain biking. Trails are closed to all activities and horses and atvs. Being on the trails before the frost is out can do the most damage.

Special late season classic skiing, April 21st, 2022.
Cutting and clearing deadfall off the trail. We will be on the trails clearing when the ground is frozen. It will be 2-4 weeks before we can open up the trails for silent sport activities.
Late night groom on the 4km late season loop, April 20th, 2022. Groomed for both skate and classic.

Ski Trail Report

Trails are now closed for the season.
Winter not stopping however with 4″ of more snow today, Wednesday the 20th. If the temp drops this evening, we will try to groom one more time for Thursday morning skiing. We will try to set a track on the 4km late season loop for one last classic grooming!

Incredible weekend, Monday and Tuesday of skiing. Great seeing everyone that came out to enjoy. This is one of the best months of April skiing we have every experienced.

It will be at least 3 weeks before all the snow melts off and frost goes out before we can open the trails back up for hiking and mountain biking.
