Mountain Bike Trail Report

The mountain bike trails are closed to the public for deer hunting.

Weather permitting, the trails might open again the end of November.

Overall it was a great season for mountain biking and thanks to all the riders that patronized the trails.

Thanks to all the racers who participated in the Laddies Loppet 2015. What a awesome weekend! We will be back in 2016, part of the Minnesota Mountain Bike Series . Click here for article in local paper. Results and photos from Saturday and Sunday on skinnyski.com

The latest section of  new section of singletrack, Hudson’s Hula, begins near the end of the Twin Lakes loop and is marked at the key intersections.  The new segment is around 1.8 miles in length.

We maintain all the ski trails over the summer but we specifically maintain around 11 miles of trail for mountain biking which includes 80% singletrack. We maintain the mtb trail on a regular basis to have the best riding conditions possible. There are two main loops for riding. A 3 mile beginner “kids comp/citizen” loop and a 11 mile intermediate to advanced loop that is signed Sport/Comp/Expert based off the categories in the race series in WI and MN and includes around 1500ft of climbing on the lap.

The Sport/Comp/Expert loop starts lakeside by the Northern Pacific building adjacent to the Lucky’s Loype ski trail near the lakeside. This advanced loop can also be accessed by starting left on Skaters Waltz to bypass the lakeside section.

The Sport/Comp/Expert loop includes the west loop or Twin Lakes singletrack and is intermediate to advanced singletrack and is 3 miles in length. This loop can be accessed off the driveway by the wooden bridge.

The majority of the Maplelag trail system runs on our property. We are riders and racers that hand built all the trail with help from other riders and racers. The trail can be described as “old school” with the majority of trail hand built. There are sections of singletrack with rocks, roots and steep ups and downs!  We maintain the trails privately with no outside funding and we are glad to share our dirt and love having people out riding!

Future plans for new mtb singletrack include a 3 mile loop near Bullhead lake we hope to start fall of 2015 and north of Maplelag near the North Loup ski trail for 2017.

To ride the trails, a one time season pass purchase of $10 is required and covers one to unlimited times riding. Note: There is no charge to use the trails the remainder of the 2014-15 season.  Please contact us at [email protected] or call 218-375-4466 if any questions on conditions or riding. Please note there are no services available in the main lodge with camps going on. Park at the far parking lot and ride! There is a portable bathroom in the parking lot for riders to use.

Thanks and Enjoy!

Maplelag’s roots to mountain biking are deep! We host a mountain bike weekend over Labor day weekend, the Laddies Loppet which will be the 25th annual in 2015 and sponsor a mountain bike team.

Keep the wheels moving!!
