Bike Trail Report

Bike trails are now closed. Thanks to everyone who supported the trails this past season. Even though it was a bit shorter this season, compared to previous years, it was a good year of fat biking with some great riding. Shout out to Ben Olson and the use of his “snow dog” groomer and his grooming efforts.

We are now waiting for the frost to go out. Even if the temp is warm, the process of having the frost go out is lengthy and typically the mountain bike trails will be rideable mid to late April. With the trails mostly free of snow, it is possible the trails will be open earlier if favorable weather. If we return to sustained cooler weather with freezing nights, it might be possible to ride in the early mornings while the ground is frozen. Any questions on this possibility, please text Jay at 218-849-7669.

We are hoping to host a short notice mountain bike race on May 8th, we will have more information and details by early April.

Please note that all riding is limited to the signed Maplelag trails. If riding local gravel, please do not venture off on land that is posted by other landowners. Thank you!

Crust riding on Bootleg singletrack, March 14th, 2021. Hard freeze night before made riding possible. The trails are “officially” closed but if interested in riding during this small window of opportunity, please text Jay at 218-849-7669. Be aware challenging conditions may exist with ice etc.

Trail Report

Trails are now closed. We had one more morning of nice spring skiing this past weekend on Saturday, enjoying the snow from a storm earlier in the week and a groomed loop of 5-6km. Good to see a few other folks out enjoying the beautiful day. Thanks to everyone who came to Maplelag this past season making it a great year despite the unusual circumstances. There are still patches of snow here and there we will enjoy until it is completely gone for good. Check back for photos and reports as we transition to spring and summer!

We are constantly working on the trails when we can, clearing deadfall, thinning brush and maintaining as weather allows. As soon as the frost is out, we will begin our annual tree planting program.

Mountain bike trails will open as soon as the frost goes out. Typically this is around mid April to early May, depending on weather. With most of the snow free from the trails, it could be more the mid April time frame. Things can change quick one way or the other. Follow the bike trail report for latest update.

Trail Report

Trails are open again thanks to a late season snowstorm that dropped 7″ of snow. Hard freeze last night with low down to 5 degrees made for nice skiing today even up until noon. We have groomed on 5-6km of trail (no tracks set) the past few days. The groomed loop uses Sap Run for a connector to make a loop on the east side of the inner trail system using Sukkerbusk and Skaters Walt segments. Suicide Hill also groomed. Did not groom more trail as temps will warm up and many low areas are still holding water from the rapid melt earlier in the week. (Last nights cold temp did freeze down all these areas) We groomed the loop again late this afternoon and also groomed another segment of Skaters Waltz. Looks to freeze down again tonight and should have one more morning of nice skiing. Best time to get out would be 6am-10am. With warm temps forecasted, the snow will melt fast!

Best skiing will be early in the morning before it warms up and gets really sticky. The base was soft/wet on the bottom so expect variable conditions if venturing out. Other trails are skiable making own track but be aware there are low areas with water and unmarked obstacles. Ski at own risk and assume all responsibility.

Note: Use parking lot near the main lodge for parking please.

Late night grooming on solar lit Sap Run, March 10th, 2021. Just the start of Sap Run groomed. No tracks set.

Trail Report

7″ of new snow the past 24 hours. Winter wonderland scenes! Quite the week after seeing 60 degrees on Tuesday. Late last night a 4-5km loop was groomed, using Sap Run for a connector and grooming a loop on the east side of the inner trail system using Sukkerbusk and Skaters Waltz. Suicide Hill was also groomed. Did not groom more trail as temps will warm up and many low areas are still holding water from the rapid melt earlier in the week.

We will have this loop open for skiing. No tracks set.

Note: the driveway has not been plowed. Road is passable, use parking lot near the main lodge for parking please.
