Fat Bike Trail Report

Trails are open. A return of colder weather with a dusting of fresh snow. The entire FatLagChilada loop was Wednesday morning. Very good to excellent riding conditions.

The entire FatLagChilada loop consists of Skaters Waltz starting to the right, the main singletrack loops Bullhead Bootleg, Twin Lakes and Sukkerwest. We also have groomed select segments in between to make the “FatLagChilada” loop. The above loops can be ridden separately. To access the inner loops, go to the start of Skaters Waltz and veer right. There are orange signs from that point and at key intersections where to turn to make the full loop. Please only ride on the designated areas for fat biking.

The Maplelag driveway is a good feeder to access Sukkerwest, Bjorps across from Sukkerwest which leads into North Star and crosses the road again to Twin Lakes.

With the hardpack conditions on the ski trails, the skate loops Skaters Waltz, the extension loops and North Loup are open for riding making for around 35km of groomed riding options.

Fresh grooming on the inner Fat Bike singletrack, February 15th, 2023.
Fresh snow on the singletrack ready to be groomed! February 15th, 2023.

Ski Trail Report

Trails are open. Blustery start to the day but a welcomed shot of fresh snow. Wind settling down mid morning. Minimal drifting at Maplelag. No rain the past 24 hours. We are grooming on the inner trails today, skate trails to the north and setting new track on North Loup. We will regroom the entire trail system by Friday noon.

We’ve been enjoying a early run of fantastic spring skiing and good to see a few folks out this week enjoying. This year is unique in that the snow we are skiing on now, is the moisture laden snow from late December. The south facing areas have transformed to “corn” snow and most of the other segments, in particular the north facing segments, are a silky sugary snow.

Lot of animals on the move and tons of tracks everywhere, especially on the inner trails. Eagles, grouse, porcupines, fox and pileated woodpeckers some of the wildlife sighted….keep your eyes open!

Trails groomed for classic and open include Sap Run, Mother Hen, JibFly, Loon Return, Sukkerbusk, Mother North Star, Rootin Tootin, North Loup, Roy’s Run, Island Lake, Wavy Gravy and Twin Lakes. For skating Skaters Waltz, the extension loops, Single Green, Kristin’s Cutoff and North Loup.

Lucky’s Loype and Bullhead trail are snow covered, no grooming and open for bushwhacking. We have packed a loop on Bullhead lake and set a track on the perimeter for classic.

The south facing areas have transformed to “corn” snow and most of the other segments in particular the north facing segments, are a silky sugary snow. Also a chance of snow Tuesday afternoon with the potential of 1-4″ by Wednesday noon.
