Ski Trail Report

Trails are open. Roller coaster weather winter continues with temps climbing above freezing today. The new snow got a bit sticky and interesting conditions with the old snow. All good, Just Ski. Cooling down at dusk and should be cooler on Sunday and more consistent conditions, bit harder and faster. Saturday evening we groomed all the inner skate trails and set new track on Sap Run, Sukkerbusk, JibFly, and Wavy Gravy. These trails groomed will be top picks for Sunday and bit more softer and forgiving snow.

Lot of animals on the move and tons of tracks everywhere, especially on the inner trails. Eagles, grouse, porcupines, fox and pileated woodpeckers some of the wildlife sighted….keep your eyes open!

Trails groomed for classic and open include Sap Run, Mother Hen, JibFly, Loon Return, Sukkerbusk, Mother North Star, Rootin Tootin, North Loup, Roy’s Run, Island Lake, Wavy Gravy and Twin Lakes. For skating Skaters Waltz, the extension loops, Single Green, Kristin’s Cutoff and North Loup.

Lucky’s Loype and Bullhead trail are snow covered, no grooming and open for bushwhacking. We have packed a loop on Bullhead lake and set a track on the perimeter for classic.

Fat Bike Trail Report

Trails are open. The entire FatLagChilada loop was groomed Wednesday morning after a dusting of new snow. Saturday afternoon when the snow was soft we groomed Bootleg, flattening the deck and rutted areas. Should be better riding on Sunday with cooler temps all day.

The entire FatLagChilada loop consists of Skaters Waltz starting to the right, the main singletrack loops Bullhead Bootleg, Twin Lakes and Sukkerwest. We also have groomed select segments in between to make the “FatLagChilada” loop. The above loops can be ridden separately. To access the inner loops, go to the start of Skaters Waltz and veer right. There are orange signs from that point and at key intersections where to turn to make the full loop. Please only ride on the designated areas for fat biking.

The Maplelag driveway is a good feeder to access Sukkerwest, Bjorps across from Sukkerwest which leads into North Star and crosses the road again to Twin Lakes.

With the hardpack conditions on the ski trails, the skate loops Skaters Waltz, the extension loops and North Loup are open for riding making for around 35km of groomed riding options.

Ski Trail Report

Trails are open. Blustery start to the day but a welcomed shot of fresh snow. Wind settling down mid morning. Minimal drifting at Maplelag. No rain the past 24 hours. We are grooming on the inner trails today, skate trails to the north and setting new track on North Loup. We will regroom the entire trail system by Friday noon.

We’ve been enjoying a early run of fantastic spring skiing and good to see a few folks out this week enjoying. This year is unique in that the snow we are skiing on now, is the moisture laden snow from late December. The south facing areas have transformed to “corn” snow and most of the other segments, in particular the north facing segments, are a silky sugary snow.
