Ski Trail Report

Trails are now closed for skiing and fat biking.  The snow has melted fast with no nights below freezing for a week and temperatures soaring into the 60’s. Just a few segments of ski trail still holding on to snow. We snuck in most likely the final groom this morning on a few trails to pick up signs etc.

We had a great run of skiing in April capping off a fantastic ski season. Was great seeing so many people out enjoying the special late season conditions. Thanks to everyone who supported us this season and the trails. The fire on October 10th was a devastating event for us and the long ski season helped keep us active, restore and gain clarity as we recover from the tragedy last fall.

The trails will open for mountain biking once the frost is out. A good indicator when this occurs is when the ice is off the lakes. We are anticipating ice out early May. Click here for latest update.

Be sure to check back if interested in keeping track of the transition to Spring and Summer and occasional photos of nature around Maplelag. (see bear track photos below!)

Total snowfall this season at 90″. Current compacted base on trail 0-4″.

Mountain Bike Trail Report

Hard to believe a week ago we still had 1-3 feet of snow in the woods and trails. We truly thought it might not be until mid May until we could ride dirt! However, a rapid melt with over a week of nights above freezing has expedited the transition from winter to dirt riding. Trails not groomed this year for fat biking are free of snow with some segments already rideable. Also helping out this year was a very dry fall, and a shallow bed of frost.

We have already begun trail work, clearing deadfall and blowing off forest debris. Even though we could see more snow and or rain, we are far enough along that any precipitation will actually help dry up the trails by pulling out frost on the sluggish north facing areas. Check back for updates on future trail opening!

Mountain Bike Trail Report

Mountain bike trails are closed until the frost goes out. A good indicator when trails might be ready to ride is when the frost goes out. We still have 12-18″ of ice on the lakes and the majority of the trails are snow and ice covered as of April 14th. We are hopeful the trails will be ready to ride early May! Check back for updates.

Still lots of snow in the woods and on the trails and we will continue skiing ourselves and grooming for learning purposes, but we are closing the trails out of caution and safety due to the unpredictable conditions. The trails will open again once the frost is out. A good indicator when this occurs is when the ice is off the lakes. We are anticipating ice out early May.
