Ski Trail Report

Trails are open. We groomed on the entire trail system today, renovating and tenderizing the snow. Trails groomed are skiing very nice considering the melt freeze and reports from skiers today have been “better than expected” Still some hardpack/icy areas to watch out for but should be a great weekend of skiing. Looks like a early taste of “spring skiing” coming up which means tracks and deck could be fast and icy like in the morning than softening in the afternoon with sun and temps in the mid 30’s. These conditions can be some of the best of the year if timed properly. Always use a little extra caution on the hills and be aware of shaded areas and sun exposed areas for changing conditions.

A fantastic two days for the Section 8 Nordic Ski Championships. Incredible weather and racing. Thanks for all those that helped make it a great two days and to all the skiers competing hard. Photos and results posted on Skinnyski.com

A few areas with scattered organic forest matter otherwise very nice skiing conditions.

Lot of animals on the move and tons of tracks everywhere, especially on the inner trails. Eagles, grouse, porcupines, fox and pileated woodpeckers some of the wildlife sighted….keep your eyes open!

Trails groomed for classic and open include Sap Run, Mother Hen, JibFly, Loon Return, Sukkerbusk, Mother North Star, Rootin Tootin, North Loup, Roy’s Run, Island Lake, Wavy Gravy and Twin Lakes. For skating Skaters Waltz, the extension loops, Single Green, Kristin’s Cutoff and North Loup.

Lucky’s Loype and Bullhead trail are snow covered, no grooming and open for bushwhacking. We have packed a loop on Bullhead lake and set a track on the perimeter for classic.

Fat Bike Trail Report

With possible warmer weather in the afternoons, please ride in the mornings to preserve the integrity of the deck. Thank you! West side trails are open (Twin Lakes and SukkerWest) Inner Segments and Bullhead Bootleg closed today and tomorrow with the Section ski races occurring the next two days. Grooming on Bootleg will occur after the section ski races this week. With possible warmer weather in the afternoons, please ride in the mornings to preserve the integrity of the deck. Thank you!

The entire FatLagChilada loop consists of Skaters Waltz starting to the right, the main singletrack loops Bullhead Bootleg, Twin Lakes and Sukkerwest. We also have groomed select segments in between to make the “FatLagChilada” loop. The above loops can be ridden separately. To access the inner loops, go to the start of Skaters Waltz and veer right. There are orange signs from that point and at key intersections where to turn to make the full loop. Please only ride on the designated areas for fat biking.

The Maplelag driveway is a good feeder to access Sukkerwest, Bjorps across from Sukkerwest which leads into North Star and crosses the road again to Twin Lakes.

With the hardpack conditions on the ski trails, the skate loops Skaters Waltz, the extension loops and North Loup are open for riding making for around 35km of groomed riding options.

Night groom on the inner singletrack, February 4th, 2023.
Moonlight grooming, February 4th, 2023.
