50km of groomed trail open, 35km classic only, 15km skate only. We have been grooming daily on some part of the trail system and the trails are skiing very well for early season. Pleasant temps and good coverage should make for a nice weekend of skiing.
Best skiing will be found on the inner loops and Twin Lakes to the west for classic and Skaters Waltz and the extension loops for skating. North Loop in much better condition for skating after recent snowfall. Use caution on far segment.
Today we packed Roy’s Run. Outside the start, we packed a modified loop. We need a few more inches before we can set track all the way through. We also set the remainder of trail on the west system. Island Lake and Wavy Gravy are now tracked, other than some thin areas and “Mac’s Mess”, (the segment to connect Wavy and Island) is still a bit thin. Still some nice early season skiing to be had with caution. Passable through Mac’s by walking or simiply use the return of Island to make a full loop on Wavy.
Total snowfall this season at 16″. Compacted base on trail 1-5″. Most recent snowfall on Tuesday with 3″new.
Winter operating plans include to operate for day skiing on the the ski, snowshoe and fat bike trails. Trails will be open every day there is skiable snow including all Holidays and weekends.
Similar to the COVID season, there will be no services available. Parking in the far lot with portable bathrooms. No lodging or meal service. Starting Thanksgiving weekend we will have the Brant cabin available as a warming area with restrooms and sitting area and tables. There are no ski rentals available.

45km of groomed trail open, 3″ of snow Tuesday. Trails are skiing very well for early season. Today we groomed the remainder of the trails we have been grooming this early season which included all the skate trails, new tracks set on JibFly, Rootin Tootin, Mother Hen, and Mother North Star. The new snow is very dry and fluffy so we weren’t able to set a full deep track in some spots like we wanted but overall skiing nice.
Grooming Wednesday morning on Loon Return, Twin Lakes, Wavy Gravy and Sukkebusk setting track. Western trails groomed up nice, just a few thin areas to watch out for and always use caution on the downhills but overall should ski well. With “Mac’s Mess” being a bit “messy” still, the return of Island Lake trail groomed to make a complete loop for Wavy Gravy. It is passable through Mac’s, taking skis off recommneded until more snow. New snow improving the conditions nicely, best coverage remains on Sukkebusk, JibFly, Rootin Tootin and Poke Loki for classic, Skaters Waltz and the extension loops for skating. However, the best tracks we are finding are on Twin Lakes, Rootin Tootin, Mother Hen and Sap Run.
Great day for the “Organic Open” ski meet. Teams from Little Falls, Brainerd and host Moorhead competed on both skate and classic courses on what we believe the first race in Minnesota on 100% natural organic snow! Skiers were greeted to fresh snow falling and sunshine to end with temps climbing to the teens from single digits to make for a magical day. Nice job to all the skiers and thanks to everyone that helped out to make it a great day.

Fat Bike trails are open. Entire 25km FatLagChilada groomed today. New snow helping level the deck and filling in the low spots. Bit soft in middle in some areas but overall nice early season riding. Base is firm below and new snow might be a bit “greasy” with the high humidity….just ride!
The FatLagChilada loop consists of Skaters Waltz starting to the right, the main singletrack loops Bullhead Bootleg, Twin Lakes and Sukkerwest. We also have groomed select segments in between to make the “FatLagChilada” loop. The above loops can be ridden separately. To access the inner loops, go to the start of Skaters Waltz and veer right. There are signs from that point and at key intersections where to turn to make the full loop. Please only ride on the designated areas for fat biking.
Bullhead lake is frozen for access across the lake. There is around 5-6″ of ice and folks have been riding across the lake. If not comfortable crossing the lake, use the normal access by taking Goat Ranch road to county 34 than access from highway. Otherwise use Skaters Waltz to access Bullhead lake following the signs. Assume all risk.
The Maplelag driveway is a good feeder to access Sukkerwest, Bjorps across from Sukkerwest which leads into North Star and crosses the road again to Twin Lakes.
With the hardpack conditions on the ski trails, the skate loops Skaters Waltz, the extension loops and North Loup are open for riding making for around 30km of groomed riding options.
45km of groomed trail open, 3″ of snow Tuesday. Dusting of snow overnight. Grooming this morning on Loon Return, Twin Lakes, Wavy Gravy and Sukkebusk setting track. Western trails groomed up nice, just a few thin areas to watch out for and always use caution on the downhills but overall should ski well. With “Mac’s Mess” being a bit “messy” still, the return of Island Lake trail groomed to make a complete loop. It is passable through Mac’s, taking skis off recommneded until more snow. New snow improving the conditions nicely.
Last night we groomed Sap Run and Sukkerbusk setting new tracks and combing out Skaters Waltz after the races. More grooming on tap Thursday where we plan to retrack the remainder of the classic trails previously groomed and comb out the skate lanes. As it stands, the trails that have tracks with the dusting of fluff snow on top still great skiing….Just Ski!
