Trails are now closed for skiing and fat biking. We had a great run of skiing in April. Was great seeing so many people out enjoying the special late season conditions. Thanks to everyone who supported us this season and the trails. The fire on October 10th was a devastating event for us and the long ski season helped keep us active, restore and gain clarity as we recover from the tragedy last fall.
Still lots of snow in the woods and on the trails and we will continue skiing ourselves and grooming for learning purposes, but we are closing the trails out of caution and safety due to the unpredictable conditions. The trails will open again once the frost is out. A good indicator when this occurs is when the ice is off the lakes. We are anticipating ice out early May.
Be sure to check back if interested in keeping track of the transition to Spring and Summer and occasional photos of nature around Maplelag. (see bear track photos below!)
Total snowfall this season at 90″. Current compacted base on trail 4-18″.

Trails are open for skiing on 23km of groomed trail. Today will be the last day we will be open for skiing for the season and trails will be closed at sunset. Textbook spring conditions this morning with a hard freeze last night setting the base up firm before softening mid morning. Great skiing up until noon or so before getting soft and slow. We did sneak in one more grooming on Sap Run setting track on both sides and combing out the 4km loop on Skaters Waltz.
Last night we groomed on JibFly for the first time since the most recent snow, setting one track. We also reset the tracks on Sap Run and groomed out 4 of 5km on Skaters Waltz. The end of Sap Run groomed for the connector to make a complete loop. The trails will be closing at sunset today. There is still a deep base of snow but with nights expected to stay above freezing and the difficulty of getting in and out of the Maplelag driveway, we will be closing the trails for the ski season.
Has been great seeing everyone out enjoying the late season conditions and visiting with many of you. Thank you!
Trails open and groomed for classic skiing include Sap Run, Sukkebusk, and North Loup. Skaters Waltz including the big hill down to Bullhead Lake and back and a skate lane on North Loup groomed for skating.
We will no longer be fat bike grooming this season. We had some great riding conditions over the weekend, Monday and Tuesday before the deep snow covered the trail. Full report here:

Trails are open for skiing on 20km of groomed trail. Today will be the last day we will be open for skiing for the season. Cooling down enough to set up last nights grooming. Trails will soften quicker but the snow has transformed to corn snow making for more consistent skiing all day.
Another beautiful day of late season/spring skiing Saturday. Good seeing everyone out. Warmest temperatures since November rolled in with some strong winds softening the deck late afternoon. We did get out for a groom early evening on all the trails currently being groomed. It was a bit trickier grooming with the soft snow. The tracks set relatively good, skate deck was a bit more rough. Still should be some nice late season skiing on Sunday.

Another fun day on the trails! Great seeing everyone out and the smiling faces enjoying the special late season conditions. Morning low temperatures down to the mid teens setting up last nights grooming nicely. Just a few flakes of snow this morning. Overcast and sub freezing temps until mid afternoon keeping the snow fresh. Trails groomed up nice this evening and should be a very nice morning of skiing Saturday. This evening we reset one track on Sap Run and Sukkerbusk and renovated and combed out the skate lanes on Skaters Waltz and North Loup. We did not reset the track on North Loup but the track was in great shape and should be good for Saturday classic skiers. With freezing temps tonight the trails might be a bit faster in the morning until softening and slowing down as the day passes. Just Ski!
This time of year after the we tend to groom later in the day or evening so the track can set up a bit harder and make for better glide longer into the morning. Weather and conditions this time of year can change rapidly, use a little extra caution on the south facing areas and hills but otherwise some great late season skiing to be had!
Trails will continue to be open through Monday April 10th at sunset. We are grooming on 20km of trail consisting of Sap Run, Sukkebusk, North Loup for classic skiing and Skaters Waltz down to Bullhead Lake and back and a skate lane on North Loup for skating.
