Ski and Trail Photos-Winter 2008

Another great winter season of snow, skiing, snowshoeing and sledding fun at Maplelag. Two big snow events early December after some light snows late November started the ski season off nicely. Early snow is key for developing a base and this year was just as important as snowfalls over 3" were rare until two big late season snow events in early April. However, it was a "cold" winter with no thaws during the season and an inch or two almost weekly kept the skiing in excellent condition with almost daily grooming. The first grooming of the year was on December 2nd and the last day of grooming was on April 3rd but we had skiing until April 14th. Thanks again to everyone who came to Maplelag this past year. We look forward to next year!!

Note: Photos at top from late March and photos at bottom from first part of the year. Lots of images to load....enjoy!!

Photo taken March 28th on Skaters Waltz. The back or east side of Skaters has the most coverage but the entire loop is skiable throughout except for Kamikaze hill.

Photo taken March 28th on a exposed area on Skaters Waltz. Snow melting in the woods but compacted on the trail and skiable throughout.

Photo taken March 28th on North Loup. Some really nice skiing on North Loup this morning with many sections about as good as it gets.

Photo taken March 28th on North Loup. The first long downhill. Very little snow loss if any on this north facing slope. Snow depth near 18" in the woods this morning and compacted base on trail over 9".

Photo taken March 26th of Denny Barry at the intersection of the small and big loop of North Loup trail, back on the trails for yet another fantastic late season ski. Once you get bit by the spring skiing bug, its hard to put the skis away.

Photo taken March 15th of Don Goetz spreading klister on. Lots of people run and hide in a corner when they hear the word klister but klister skiing can be some fantastic skiing, like today. The nice thing about klister this time of year is you can leave it on and it will last forever. You can wax with hard wax over as well if conditions change or put different klister on.
