2005/2006 Winter Season Recap
It was great to have skiing
so far into April and the skiing in April capped off a fantastic year on the trails. Although we had some early November skiing for a few days,
the season officially began on December 2nd after grooming a 6" snowfall
on top of a 1" ice base. This solid base allowed us to take the Pisten Bully groomer out mid December. We had just over 5 feet of snowfall for the year but the snow we
received had high moisture content and the snowfalls were frequent enough to keep things fresh. A few days it drizzled that made the trails slick for a few days but all in all
you could of not asked for a better winter snow wise. It was a bit warmer with not many days below 0 and actually the coldest
weekend of the year was Presidents weekend. The first "groomable" snow was on November 16th
and last day grooming occured on the trails was April 3rd. Special thanks to everyone who
came to Maplelag to enjoy the skiing on the trails. Later this spring we plan on making a new beginner trail that will be around 1.5km in length. We also plan on building some
new singletrack for the mountain bike trails and Laddie Loppet course. Scroll down for photos from each month of this winter season.
Photo taken November 16th in the square field on double green trail. First grooming of the year. Most of the snow from this early season snowfall melted to a icy base which was a good
start for the snow that came later in the month.
Photo taken December 3rd of Neil Jonason on Skaters Waltz. Neil won the unofficial season pass holder of the year award. Neil was able to hit a lot of great days this past winter.
Photo taken December 15th grooming with the Pisten Bully at the end of North Loup/Roy's Run. The snow was flocked nicely to the trees.
Photo taken December 24th of the Eisinger family and Matt. Matt and Annie will be getting married at Maplelag in September 2006. One of the many foggy days
in December. Not warm enough to melt the snow but pleasant enough for skiing.
