Winter Season Review
It was an interesting winter season once again at Maplelag this past year. Mother Nature decided it would be best to wait for the snow to fall until baby Jens entered the world then we ended the ski season right on the last ski weekend of the winter season, March 14th-16th. Typically we can ski until the first part of April but we went from great skiing conditions on March 14th to basically no skiing on March 17th. All in all, it was a great winter season and always is nice to see new faces and our long time returnees. Thanks to everyone who was part of another magical year at Maplelag. Scroll down for a few photos that highlight this past season.

Before the start of the winter season, we purchased a new four stroke snowmobile and the new "Ginzu" groomer. This setup allowed us to have good skiing conditions with minimal snow. Photo of Monte's movers with the new grooming set up. These guys groom the trails in the Bemidji area.

With lack of snow in most of the state, we had a large number of high school ski teams visit Maplelag. Here are a few members of Eden Prairie, Wayzata, Buffalo, Fergus Falls, and Alexandria.

One of our favorite groups to Maplelag is the Ken Goodridge clan from Winipeg, CAN. Here they lead some ski games in the back bowl.

Depot signs ready to go upstairs in the library area. We finished the library area right before Christmas and the walls are filled with depot station signs from Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Montana, Michigan and Canada to name a few.

Here are some the "gnarlies" from West Yellowstone, MT. used as dividers in the library area. The burls are formed from the trees living in the high sulfur environment. A few of the depot signs in the background.

Not as much shoveling on the trails this year. Here is Jose from Peru shoveling on Kamikaze in December. We also had two other students from Peru work for us this past season, Julianna and Geraldo.

We started grooming with the Pisten Bully this year the first week in February. Here the front end renovator mixes the new snow with the old to provide solid tracks.

One thing is for sure at Maplelag, the water will always be the same temp in the plunge hole. Here the Crofton Ski train takes a break from the trails to take the plunge.

With lack of snow at the usual site, we hosted the Section 8 Nordic Ski Championships. Here a Brainerd and Bemidji skier finish their skate race in the pursuit race.
