News Updates and Photos - July-August 2002
The first part of July, Jim, Jack and I took a trip to western North Dakota
to look at the rock my Dad had found on a trip out west two weeks ago. He
was looking for old foundations from early homesteads that had been left
to weather away. Jim was able to locate a area that had a rare type of local
limestone (we think) that the locals call "prairie stone". After finding
out the owner of the land, permission was granted to look at the rock and
purchase it. Jack and I went along to help load some of the rocks on pallets.
Jim was also able to locate some beautiful petrified stone that we will
puchase from the farmers to use for landscaping around the Maplelag grounds
and will also work in a few pieces in the chimney. At the end of the day,
we went out of our way to be treated to some excellent German cuisine in
the town of New Leipzig.

August 8th A piece of petrified wood/rock mixed in with the
other stones in the chimney. We used about a dozen of these throughout
the chimney. We also found pieces of petrified rock in the old foundation.
